This was a really good version of the "wife fires her husband" story. While I liked Bigguy33 and Qhml1's versions I always wanted to read a version where the husband actually divorces his wife, got alimony, the kids and a new life. Your story fit the bill to a "T". Maybe a little more angst at losing everything would have suited her, but well done.

Tyler is a real piece of shit. The only thing he deserves is a bullet between his eyes and his brains decorating the basement wall.

Harsh? No.

Harsh is using your marriage to financially devestate your spouse because they listened to the wrong person.

Harsh is weaponizing your children against their mother because she fired you.

Harsh is lying and betraying your wife because your feelings were hurt.

No CEO should be working 18 hour days and firing people based on one persons recommendation. She is a shitty CEO; but clearly Tyler is quite adept at lying, cheating and blackmailing the woman who loves him just so he can have his revenge.

PowersworderPowersworderover 1 year ago

This was much better than the two stories you linked.

Why?

Because it ended in divorce, the only natural outcome to events like this.

In both of those other stories, the men only separated from their intolerable wives, and in both cases reconciled. Neither made any sense, as both husbands were in an ideal position to destroy their horrible CEO wives in a divorce. They'd get a big chunk of the marital assets as well as huge alimony payments, because they were unemployed while the wife was earning a very high salary.

After that, hit the company with a wrongful termination suit, and they'd be financially set for life.

-

Finally, and most importantly... after being treated with utter contempt by their wives, why would they ever reconcile? The simplest lesson to learn from their sham marriages, is to stay far away from career obsessed corporate bitches, and marry a kind and caring traditional woman.

5* for giving this a realistic ending.

His revenge seemed to be overboard. He obviously hadn't cared about his wife or family for a long time. He had the chance to make things right but didn't think twice. I don't think the husband was any better than her. It was well written though and packed alot into a short story.

While I did like that the husband one the lawsuit, and the kids; I feel like this should of been a RAAC story. Primarily due to her not cheating even after he stop having sex with her. Of course I felt like she was the one who would of had to make the effort to make it happen, but I feel like her ending punishment was a bit extreme for being fired by her without her understanding the full story. I like us gouts to win in these stories but dang that was harsh.

Let Go's central premise wasn't really convincing, but I ended up going along with it because the story flowed in a reasonably feelgood way. This one makes that same premise even more unbelievable since the wife knows right away that something is wrong, but still goes through with her dumbass plan anyway. Her actions make her a nothing character, and the story doesn't have much more going for it, shortened as it is.

jasonnhjasonnhover 1 year ago

Overall, I liked the story. Tyler didn't break down and sob. He got right to business and got his ducks in a row. He manipulated his wife, as she deserved, to get what he wanted, and deserved.

However, "I guess I'm proof that it's not always the hubby that gets screwed in a divorce."

She didn't get "screwed", she got what she deserved. She completely disrespected her husband at work in deference to his boss. She fired him, damaging his reputation and eliminating his income. She didn't pay much attention to her kids. She wasn't engaged with her husband as a husband.

So she lost her husband and her kids. She and her company had to pay for her actions.

If you cause a car accident, you, or your insurance company, have to pay for the damages you do. You are liable. Your liability payments are justice.

She wasn't screwed, she was served justice for her actions.

Now she's having a pity party.

amygdalaamygdalaover 1 year ago

This was a good read but i sorta wish if you could have delve more into the proceeding days/weeks/months after the termination. Explore the feelings and makeup of both parties and flesh out the characters a bit more. We know the wife made a lapse in judgement based on prioritizing her position over her relationship with her family and we know that the husband as a result of the firing began to change his mindset and priorities in regards to his marriage. That to me just needs to be delved in to more as that ultimately led to the termination of a 10 year marriage.

Last line is incorrect. “Getting screwed” happens when you aren’t treated fairly in court. Everything that happened to her was fair; she caused the problems both in work and at home, and she paid the fair price for them.

She didn’t get screwed, she got what she deserved.

What kind of CEO just goes around firing people without getting full details on why they should be fired?🤭.. what CEO is firing a good employee thats been with the company for year's without any investigation? .. Wouldn't that open the company to a wrongful termination lawsuit?😒😒.. She's supposed to be smart? ... what type of company doesn't have loyalty to employees that's been there year's?... I'm not sure if that was enough to divorce but they seemed to have had issues... the wrongful firing was just the straw that broke the camels back.. she was barely home, she's more focused on work than her family, she had no trust in her husband and she barely spent anytime with the kids... but she wasn't cheating... I feel like they could've went to marriage counseling... I think the marriage could've been saved had they tried marriage counseling... unless the marriage was too far gone to be saved.. I didn't get that it was... he was upset she just fired him without giving him the benefit of the doubt.. I get it.. I probably would've divorced her also.. but I would've at least see if the relationship could be repaired.. if only to be able to say " I tried"... I'm just happy she wasn't cheating.🤭.. she was just a shitty wife and mother due to her job.. he also moved on pretty fast... how long had he been falling out of love with her? Divorcing her wasn't very hard for him... it tells me his feelings weren't the same and hadn't been for awhile.. hence why he was ok to move on with his life without her in it...

Okay, so, by your own narrative, Tyler never discussed his wife's shortcomings in the marriage with her, so what's he do when she messes up? Finally has a talk? Nope. He gives her hope that she can save her marriage by writing out a confession, divorces her, takes her children away, then uses that thread of hope to torpedo her life.

Wow. You managed turned your wronged protagonist into one of the biggest assholes I've seen on this site. Congrats? I'm morbidly curious to know what happens to the new girlfriend the first time she disappoints "Tyler 2.0". It'll be a bloodbath.

The writing is technically pretty good with only a few mistakes. The story came off as dispassionate, though. I did not connect with any of the characters. It felt more like a summation of a story than the actual story. That said, I am glad the author tried to tackle the topic. Asymmetrical power dynamics in relationships are stories I gravitate towards.

miket0422miket0422over 1 year ago

Decently written story. The plot had so many holes in it though. If Gabby was really the hotshot, super competent CEO she was portrayed as at the start of this story then this story never happens.

In today's business environment firing an employee who's outside their probationary period requires a lot of written documentation to support the company's decision in order to avoid a wrongful termination lawsuit. If that documentation had been done accurately in this situation the info Gabby discovered after the fact would have already been known and the termination wouldn't have happened. If the immediate supervisor had falsified his documentation the lawsuit still happens and he gets fired immediately.

Gabby proves in the first page she's not a competent CEO when she discovers the facts minutes after firing her husband and chooses to keep silent and let the termination stand. Someone who has the backbone to make it to a CEO position at her age would have immediately corrected the situation and fired the supervisor who withheld relevant information.

Even though I like the concept, these stories ultimately fail. Most companies that allow employees to be married are very specific that those employees can not be in each other's chain of command in any way to avoid exactly this type the f situation. When she was offered the CEO position he would have been let go with a very generous severance package and a glowing recommendation.

I feel like this could have been fleshed out more - like a reason why the wife went ahead and fired her husband, and then went to talk to his former manager - instead of giving the husband some leeway. What was her thought process for that?

Maybe a bit more with Tyler and the girls after the divorce instead of just Gabby's side of the story.

Not a bad story.

A lesson on how to alter sympathy from one character to another.

I find this an interesting plot line. An ambitious and ruthless woman with, generally, a normal, down to earth and decent husband. But a husband who doesn't always cut it in the workplace. We all hate her straight away, siding with the poor downtrodden guy. She's usually something of a looker, maybe even recieving advances from other men, while hubby feels sorry for himself.

This one was different though. Right from the outset it was made clear she was overweight and a little plain, while he was the ex model and all around nice guy. Unfortunately it was laid on a bit thick, spade full after spade full about how perfect he is compared to how bad she is, whether as a wife or a mother. Yes, I began by hating her, I still did as I read on. But the further I went the more I hated this obnoxious arsehole of a man as well, in fact I got to a point where I disliked the egotistical knobend more than anybody. I was praying that someone might smack his perfect, smug face and give us all something to smile about.

A good, if unoriginal plot, well told and decently written. Sadly the author spent all his energy trying to appease the women hating readership, and losing sight of what mattered.

"Six months after being fired" - This was such a critical project that he was fired for being a couple of weeks late. Now it's six months later, is the project done? If not, how is the company doing?

\

"If it came to light, it would ruin my career." As he said, putting her career before him. Without that letter, what's to stop her from pulling that shit again? Her word is obviously worthless, since she just went back on her word to do anything.

\

"When you found out that I was telling the truth, you withheld that information from me, didn't you?" - Yes, why didn't she higher him back immediately, and when he successfully completed the project, give him Tom's job?

\

"The judge ruled that I was solely responsible for Tyler losing his job." - That's a no-brainer! Who else was responsible? Tom? It was still her decision.

\

"I guess I'm proof that it's not always the hubby that gets screwed in a divorce." - She screwed herself. When the husband gets screwed it's after his wife cheated.

Wow I'm really conflicted...which is EXACTLY why spouses shouldn't work together in the first place. Dude works in a STEM field he should have been job hopping to higher paying jobs every few years anyways to maximize his income anyways.

Him being as livid as he is, eh I don't know. I get it why but he's acting the same as if she cheated with his best friend for years. I think that being showing more of how she was failing as a wife prior to him being fired would have made his anger more justified for the reader.

And I'm conflicted about that letter being used against the company as well. From a technical standpoint he went through with suing them after the divorce so he wasn't breaking any kind of marriage vow thing that might have "backstab" slipped into it but still it was a massive betrayal. If I'm correctly she didn't betray him but she just didn't trust him. On the other hand he was just being as cutthroat as the company when they fired him. Like I said I'm conflicted. I think it boiled down to him betraying her as individuals while she didn't trust him with while wearing her CEO hat where she's suppose to be objective. This distinction makes me not like him using her letter.

This is a mess and they shouldn't have been working in the same company. He isn't able to shine professionally without "nepotism" lingering in the back of some coworkers. It's amazing to me that his bosses had the balls to come down on him knowing he was married to the CEO. Had he been as ambitious in his career as he was torching his marriage then he'd be making as much as her and doing the same job but with an inflated title.

I like your style, and it was really well written. There was only one point I really disliked, which is why I only rated 4/5. It felt a little... unnatural.

The moment they finally talked, she completely broke down with basically no buildup. I symphasize with the husband, since the wife evidently was neglecting him and her family, but if she really did that, it makes less sense for her to fall to her knees and break out in sobs.

In comparison, I felt like the husband's response was a little over the top as well. Being pissed for being wrongfully fired and ignored I can understand, but since his problematic job-search was only mentioned in passing, taking away her children felt like a cheap revenge-move.

MsDirectorMsDirectorover 1 year ago

Ugggg clearly bs. You lost me at wrongful termination. These are even less successful than alienation off affection lawsuits. Unless he has a contract, which he wouldn't, he had no grounds. It got dumber from there. No CEO can settle like that, the board would go nuts, it would lead to an avalanche of following claims and lawsuits. Further, as his spouse, ex or otherwise, they would suspect collusion or fraud. The board would block any such action and no lawyer would endanger their practice by allowing a compromised defendant to make that call.

"No CEO can settle like that, the board would go nuts, it would lead to an avalanche of following claims and lawsuits..."

This company hardly sounds like one that would need or have a CEO. And a CEO would not be involved in operations.

The real problem I have with this story is that I really have no reason or inclination to care or like any of these "characters". The guy does not seem to have any redeeming qualities. Him spending time with the children probably is a negative vs. a positive. The wife doesn't seem attractive or intelligent. Just a woman...maybe.

Well done.

Here we have an unusual 'loving wife'.

Not crazy or stupid. Not even a cheater.

But certainly a bad wife.

I like this kind of stories.

Some think it's unrealistic that she's so different

from 'before' to 'after'.

Maybe unusual, but not necessarily unrealistic.

A CEO can have both a hard side and a soft one.

Why not?

We've read about people having two lives

and even two unconnected families.

Why not two sides?

I saw a comment before mine, on hoping

this kind of stories didn't become a trend like February Sucks.

Why would that be a problem?

Stories like this one is far more realistic than fucking some celebrity.

The fact is we're good with both kind of stories.

Reality makes us think (which is a good thing for most of us)

while unrealistic stories can be easy on the mind fun.

A different kind of story. Wife as CEO fires hubby but does not do it for other reasons like an affair. Tyler was kind of little bitch with some of his early actions. The wife accented that by not telling him about her confronting Tom.

They both let the snippy 'no sex' thing go far too long without a real discussion. That was the biggest part of Tyler's childish attitude.

Talking about her not being a wife and mother should have been an early discussion. Of course, the Tyler's attitude pretty much pushed her into the non-wife part as well. Taking the kids camping when Gabby was available instead of doing something she could be part of was pretty low and added to Gabby's difficulty spending time with her kids. Unlikable characters all around.

Poor baby. Our author tried and admitted in his forward there were better authors then he that tackled stories like this with different scenarios and he's right. I feel it would have been a much better story if he turned it into an RAAC one. Portraying the husband just as intractable as the wife, maybe even more so, didn't leave much room any "I'm sorry's " by either of them. The CEO did the right thing after the fact by investigating the husband's claim of why the project was delayed. At that point she should have been running out the door and hiring him back with some serious booty kissing. Also the ending just kind let air out of my balloon as it floated away on the wind. I do thank the author for trying and I'm sure if he gave this story a bit more thought he could do a lot better. Keep writing and use the criticisms to make you a batter author.
