"It's Darby Island," Ben told her. "It used to be a plantation back in the 1940's. An Englishman named Sir Baxter built it, but it was abandoned years ago. We fixed the house up and repaired everything and it's great now. It has lots of fruit trees, lots of beaches and lots of other kinds of trees. There are even some huge lizards that live on the beach. I don't bother them. They run away if you get too close, but they have big claws and they look like they could fight if you trapped them."

Bannon clapped her hands in delight. "I want to go there, Kane. Can we go home with them for a while?"

"Oliver, would that be okay? I mean, you said we could go with you if our boat wasn't fixed. Could we just go with you anyway? You said you could take us back to Nassau when we needed to go."

"Yes, Dad, please let them come. I really like Bannon and it would be fun to take her around the island. She's really good at chess, too. She's way better than you. She beat me twice. I haven't lost a game since I was six, but she's really good."

"I would love to have you ladies. We don't have shopping malls or bars or tourists, but we have beautiful scenery, white beaches, blue water and I might even cook again. We could swim, fish if you like that, maybe water ski and ride the boats and I'll fly you back to Nassau whenever you need me to."

"Do you have an airplane, Oliver?" Kane asked him.

"No, but I have a helicopter," he said. "I used to have a plane, but I like to be able to land wherever I want to, not always at some airport. I'd take you to Nassau in the helicopter or we could leave a couple of days early and take the yacht. So you'll come?"

"Yes we'd love to come," Bannon jumped up and threw her arms around him. "Thank you Oliver."

"Actually, I'm the one that should be thanking you. Your visit will mean a lot to Ben and me.

Story development

You are such a wonderful writer, I was disappointed in this first chapter’s development with regard to chapter’s 2 through 6, the development is so much better and more in line with your talent as a writer. I was also surprised at the difference in airport issues at the beginning and those presented at the end.

I always look forward to your stories.

?

Does this story have anything to do with the original eye in the sky chapter?

I gave this four stars because the plot is unfolding.

P.S. I thought the distress flare was shot,by pirates.

Good start

As has already been said it's good to read another story by Blackrandl1958, although the Irish girls backstory reads more like a US schooling than Irish so may need a few tweaks before publication.

In the UK there are very few scholarships linked to sport rather than academic achievement and while there may be halls of residence for anyone who didn't live locally solo apartments at universities tend to go with postgraduate rather than undergraduate studies.

Similarly a high school is unlikely to share a campus with a college or university and a village of 1000 people might have a junior school but the senior high and/or local college would probably be in the nearest town a few miles away. Local distances in the UK tend to be counted in terms of a few miles rather than in 10s or 100s of miles like the US.

Good Start

A nicely written piece but no idea where it's going yet so will have to read on.

Best to skip the nautical terms if you cannot get them correct

Barely started this chapter and the hero asks to turn the boat left. That is port for you landlubbers.

Good set ups

I was convinced you were female, having read our name as Randi..And surprised at the range of characterizations. Now i know better, i think, but still impressed .

May your writing success buy you that island!
