As a person ages, life will try to break you. Even the strongest can be beaten down. It's what we are all destined to face in the winter of our lives. At some point, we all have choices to make. David chose to spend his with the love of his life.

so don't fuck it up.
A great romance isn't measured in time, but by the depth of the emotion. It's an incredible gift that not everyone receives. It will define you for the rest of your life. It is a tragedy that some never live long enough to experience it. Or worse still, those who don't recognize it when it was right in front of them.
