After the kiss, we sat back down, slightly embarrassed at having made a scene in the restaurant. I reached within my purse and revealed a small box of my own and, in turn, slipped a ring on her finger: "I, too, had plans for today. In fact, I'd planned to ask you last month. And the month prior.
