I think the problem I am having with this specific story, is that it is too short and abrupt to really get anymore of a feeling for the characters then sadness for Fiona. There is not enough background about Claudette then too feel anger for her actions and disgust for the rationalizations given for her lack of character.

Maybe it's my idealism but I simply do not believe the simplicity of Charlotte's excuses for raping Fiona. It does not jibe with my experiences with women. Such violent behavior by women criminals who I have known about, is always provoked by a dominating man in her life.

A couple of the previous chapters needed fleshing out to make them more interesting. This chapter definitely needs to amplify Charlotte's history to make this story believable.
