Wendy kissed both of us. Lucy came back and took Lauren into her arms and carried her outside.
Aunt Wendy said, "Helen has been the only other one to be overwhelmed like that. Don't tease her about it, she gets angry."
When we got outside we saw Helen and Lauren clinging to each other. Both had tears in their eyes.
"Helen will spend the night at your house tonight," Aunt Wendy said.
I nodded in understanding.
By the time we married that following Thanksgiving Lauren was just another MacDuff. We had our honeymoon first, in Costa Rica.
Helen became her hero and she took on that role as seriously as that can be done. My sister became her sister, and occasional lover, so did Audrey, Carly, Ruthie, Clara.........
I went back to designing code even though I had sworn to Bruce I would never do that again. But I knew this time it would not drive me crazy, I had Lauren to anchor me.

Anonymousabout 10 years agoHave I missed something or is Patrick a new character? Since Allison, Wendy, Mo and Amanda are all aunts I assume he's Martha's son but where in line?
