He should have knocked- the power was out, even to the electric door bell. Strictly minor oversight in an otherwise great story.

Like the prior comment, the doorbell was a minor issue (though it COULD have been one of the "old fashioned" ones that you turn and ring a bell on the inside of the door!). I especially enjoyed the trading of perspectives between the male and female - interesting idea!
