"Something wrong?" Robyn rose a moment later.

"Um, no," I looked down briefly, "it's just that you said you couldn't sit still in church after you and Penny got together but I find that now and it's not like I'm out or even thinking of it."

"You were raised as a Christian," Robyn stated the obvious, "I was too. My dad was an atheist but my mother was a born again Christian, I used to go to church after I left home because it was what I'd always done," she wrote down my measurements.

"But I was treading water even before I met Penny, most of my social circle were at church but I was living with non Christian women, my sister in Sydney was no longer a Christian."

"I'm in the same boat," I nudged my glasses again, "I live with two non Christians."

Robyn turned away to write down the last of the measurements.

"Understandably so, it's called stepping outside your bubble, you can get dressed again," she turned around again.

I started getting dressed whilst Robyn sat down at the laptop to go through Astrid's selections and by the time I'd finished she'd written down a list of clothes in different materials and colours.

"Your turn," she glanced at me.

"Two hundred and fifty dollars for twenty four garments or we can work out a price if you order more than one item if you like."

I made a mental calculation and then nodded.

"Okay, do I have to pay now? I don't get paid until Friday and I need to budget."

"Friday's fine," she nodded, "tell you what, you can pay half of the quarter this week and the rest next week or we can spread it over the next few weeks."

"I can do the end of the week," I replied, "but thanks."

"No worries, I know what it's like to earn minimum wage."

I didn't reply as I went back through the website. Robyn told me I could order anything but if I had my eye on a wedding dress that was worth two standard items.

"You don't have to choose everything tonight of course, order a couple of things and then spend the next few days or weeks browsing until you find the other things you want."

Eventually I chose a silk pussybow blouse in pink silk, a cream-coloured blouse in white polyester, a red double-breasted blouse in satin and a white, three-quarter length button skirt.

"There's just so much to choose, I could be there for hours."

"That's fine and I have to be going soon. Penny's gone to see Melanie about something but she'll be back by now and it's nearly dinnertime," she looked at her watch.

"Actually, it's way past dinnertime," she chuckled, "excuse me while I make a call."

She rose and walked into the kitchen, leaving me with Astrid and by the time she got back I'd found another thing I liked, a black mini skirt.

"What material?"

"Um, cotton? I don't suppose you have leather?"

"Of course we have leather," she grinned, "black, white, pink, brown?"

"Black," I replied, "thanks."

"No problem," she wrote that down and then closed the laptop, "all right ladies, it's been wonderful to spend time with you but my better half has had a hard day so I'd better get moving."

She rose and picked up her laptop and bag.

"So, we'll see you this Friday?"

"Yeah, for sure," I nodded.

She left shortly afterwards and I watched her leave. Despite my 'eagerness' to go to this meeting I was a little nervous about it. Granted, Lindsay would be there but there'd be other women there as well, probably gay women. Had I stepped out too far too quickly?

Only time would tell.

All right, I have to get Anna ready for bed and then call Astrid, she doesn't know I've been writing my story down. Let's hope she doesn't mind and with that in mind I'll write more tomorrow.

To be continued, tomorrow...

A very common theme running through many of your stories is God/ The Church versus gays.

As you point out in this chapter, there is a verse in Romans where God seems to unjustly condemn gays.

This verse is a matter of perception. If a loving father says to his daughter don't do that, it will hurt. We readily accept that as a loving correction, some instruction for the girls benefit.

If a stern angry man says the same thing, we perceive it as a something threatening and malignant.

Romans says that they will receive recompense for what they do. This is consistent with what the Bible says about he who sins (whatever that actually really is) sexually sins against his own body. It is not a sin against God. It is not a sin against the church, or society in general. As opposed to gossip, backstabbing, lying, being judgmental. They are real sins against other people and therefore by extension against God.

The gay bashing bible bashing Christians are probably further from Gods truth than the gay people who seek for acceptance from a loving God. Acceptance that is denied coz of a few homophobic people who never got over the guilt of growing up and passing through a universal homosexual stage are now having to hurt everyone just to cover their own sins.

I wondered for years about the rights and wrongs of being gay. Why is it wrong? What is wrong with it? This is not a definitive answer, although it is consistent with Freud, Jung and scripture. Gods first words about mankind was "Be fruitful and multiply." It is basic common sense for a society to continue, we need to have babies. If there was a proliferation of gays, birth rates would simply drop. I am not saying that gay people can not make babies, many do. It is just not the natural thing for them to do. They do not desire or like heterosexual relations.

My gay brother-in-law, who has been in a monogenous relationship for 45 years said the one regret he has about being gay is that he has no one to pass his things, his wisdom, his personality etc. on to. The line ends with him. Surely this is the recompense for your own actions Romans speaks of. Not a divine hatred, nor an eternal lake of hurtful burning fire, you just get snuffed out.

I get it that today with the marvels of modern medicine, this need not be the case but it is still the case too many times.

You don't need to believe the bible for it to be useful. Romans 1 clearly states that the reason there is homosexuality in a society is because they, the Christians, worshipped created things rather than the creator. Start reading from verse 19. So the Bible quoting fanatics should be made aware from their own scriptures that they have allowed to happen the very thing that they are hating. According to their Bible, the responsibility is theirs that a fetus being formed in the womb gets a mixed up recipe.

Also. The Bible clearly states "God is not a man" We gave him the title of a male.

The most sacred name the Jews have for God is God the Provider, El Shaddai. It literally means "to suckle". To provide all comfort and safety by holding a baby at ones breast, close to ones heart. That's hardly a male thing to do.

Also Genesis states that God made people male AND female. Not male or female. It would be scripturally correct to agree with the scientists who insist that all people are made of male and female bits and bobs.

I have 2 reasons motivating this outburst

1) We were attending church when my best friend suddenly announced he was gay. Our church leaders told us to have nothing to do with him. Of course I disobeyed. How could this good friend of mine suddenly change from being a friend to being an enemy and Satan's spawn and all that hateful vitriolic talk.

2) I was raped by a dirty old man when I was a boy of 16. I had to work hard at not letting my hatred of him consume me. I sought to understand homosexuality before I realized that he was not gay, he was just a dirty old man who would get his rocks off anyway, anywhere with anyone.

As a fan for sometime I am also happy to see you continuing to turn out good stories with likeable characters and some carrying over from other stories, Robyn, Helen and more. I have always liked the way you link stories and continue to expand the community of mainly women. They tend to be down to earth and frank about their sexuality. I like the normalizing of diversity. I wish I could see more of that where I live.

So keep up the good work it truly enjoy it. j
