Loved beta-reading this one. The feuding between Donna and Magda is just gloriously petty.

Things to come…

If this first installment is any indication, this new collaboration is going to make me the happiest of Spokes.

I hope one day I’m a grumpy old lady, growing old with my Magda. Beautifully done, and I can’t wait to see what else comes from your partnership!

I don't know what's best, how hot the sex was between your lovely characters, or the fact it made me cry.

This was just wonderful. Cannot praise it enough.

I loved this story. This could have happened in real life. I found myself cheering for them as the story went on. I was glad that Janet and Donna relationship rebuilded.

This was a great story you two. I like how you wove the comedic, with the difficult. Especially the body image difficulties so many of us endure. And I'm going to make my girl a Grumpy Old Ladies sign one of these days. Well done.

Very sweet. Loved how we gradually got to know the characters and how Donna gradually got to know herself. Very, very well-written.

Dr beulahthebrit; Beautiful story, if this is truly part 1, part 2, will have a lot to live up too.

Yep. This is the kind of story that keeps me coming back to Literotica to get my mind food. Who cares if you gotta sort through a mountain of licorice bites if you can find the occasional chocolate truffle? Soooo tasty!

Wonderful first story. Loved the grumpy rivalry and how you took the characters through self discovery, both personal and sexual. Very nicely done. I did have a minor issue on tossing the cookies, that was the perfect moment for Donna to make her stand. With all the work she put in, to go unthanked. Yup, a door should have been slammed in someone’s face right then and there. I hope to be able to read more from you. Thx.

Hard swing and a hit to deep left center! It's going, going, it's outta here! You hit it out of the park on this one. Hilariously killer story and well worth the five I gave it and the two others I couldn't.

Very nice. Reading this has made me late to run an errand, but it was worth it.

On Sundays, my husband knows I watch football. Today, my favorite team is on a bye. So I decided to read this story. When my husband asked and I told him, he thought it was funny, a gay man reading a lesbian story. I told him this was a sweet story about two people finding love a second time. It is like us. Thank you for sharing.

lilshymynxlilshymynxover 2 years ago

Such an amazing story! The two of you are both so talented individually, and together are just as amazing. Their absurdly petty, yet completely realistic rivalry had me giggling with each new level it reached, especially once they both realized just how stupid it had been. So many heavy subjects touched with this, but balanced with the lighter moments. Very well written and I can't wait for more!

Sweet and gorgeous. I loved it. But despite being 16 pages, I feel like it has to be longer, somehow? Not only on the selfish "this was great I don't want it to be over" sense, but there are two important moments that I think deserve a bit more attention.

The first is that Donna and Magda's switch from rivals to friends felt very sudden. Their growth AFTER that point was perfect, and their prank war/obsession before it was wonderful; I just feel like after all the drama and buildup we need a little more than "they joked around for a while for a while and now they're borderline-dating best friends." Something happening that forces both of them to remember their girlhood friendship. (Maybe running into their mutual crush instead of Frank?)

Second, I would really like to have seen them coming out to their kids. We only get a passing reference to Janet taking it poorly, and that's just... their families were so close for so long, I feel like seeing how everyone reacts would be both fun and interesting.

Could've sworn I'd already heaped plaudits on you for this.

it's really good. I really like Donna and Magda.

(Except the part where she mangled the tree. Poor tree.)

Terrific story telling, and well written. Although maybe a tad long and lacking clarification on a couple of key points mentioned by others, it was still a very enjoyable read. I especially liked the fact it involved a pair of “grumpy old ladies” for a change. Kudos to you both.

Thank you for this lovely story. All the characters are so real. I appreciate the complexity and growth, especially of author and the relationships with the kids. Thank god for the sexual liberation and tenacious boundary setting of grumpy old women!

This was lovely on so many fronts. I do agree with the comment that the transition from bitter rivals to sorta friends to very close friends...the first part of that evolution was a bit abrupt...there was room there for some more story telling...but really, I woulda been reading straight thru even were it 26 pages. I loved that fact that neither Magda nor Donna was drop deal beautiful in a conventional sense....and I loved that you honestly portrayed Donna's body image issues, and even when they were making love, you honestly described how Donna had to self consciously adjust herself a bit at times, at least in the beginning of their new relationship....I thought that so honest, and the fact that in each other's eyes, they were perfect was so lovely....how love should be. A great story. Hoping you favor us with another one/ Thanks for sharing Magda's and donna's story with us.

AnonymousAnonymousover 2 years ago

Much of this story is excellent, and not too long at 16 pages, but in places jumped rather abruptly. I feel that the authors really understand what it's like to be someone like Donna who lives for appearances. The character of Magda before they rediscover their friendship is less easy to relate to. How does she feels about pranking Donna back? The prank war doesn't seem to be the same for her as it is for Donna. Is she annoyed, amused, determined not to be outdone, or simply enjoys winding Donna up.

33 comments and a 4.81 score as I type this. Well earned I'd say. This was a beautiful piece, with some really good drama, great characters that just felt so damn real. It was easy to sympathize with them right from the get go. The sex was steamy, the relationships fiery, and the ending was lovely. Thank you for sharing this with us all!

I think some of only criticisms would be that certainly plot points didn't feel totally fleshed out, the cause of the fallout. There is some hints and subtext, but I am curious. How did most of their rids react outside of Janet? Did Donna and Janet's relationship just slowly mend over time?

Also, would have loved to see some comeupance for the Home Owner's Ascociation, cause fuck those people. Lol

In the end though, I consumed this story. Loved the body positivity, the body worship they did to one another, and just all the little things that had them getting closer, and closer. Romantic as fuck really.

You two, keep up the beautiful work.

I know it was a lot of work to put this together. The plot jum'ed around with little or no warning. I found myself asking at times "where did this come from" during a jump. The HOA business didn't fit in the story w/o developing that story segment.

AnonymousAnonymousover 2 years ago

Terrific! Lovely character development and writing. I thought the jumps were splendid and fitted the characters beautifully - unsettled until they worked things out. Donna's coming out, both in the usual sense and in her developing passion and a willingness to stand up to the petty bullies around her was particularly delightful. I do hope you will be publishing more.

this is the third time I've read this story, and only now did I realize that their late husbands had (almost) mirror-image names: Le-O and O-llie.

Nice touch.

gregscottgregscottover 1 year ago

Your story has layers like Donna's favorite author's stories. It takes time to weave the characters into understanding them. I was not fond of Donna at first and was not sure I wanted to spend a few hours reading this 16-page story. I'm glad I did. I'm sure you could have spent 20 or more pages giving us backstories involving each family member. The skillful detail was just enough to paint a beautiful picture without being a drag on novel, and the lovemaking was subtle enough to be romantic and loving.

Some stories can stand alone, tall and proud like this one.

That is what I strive for every time I write something; it is very hard to do.

Thank you for rewarding me and the time I spent reading your grand tale.

Too often, I have finished a story and wanted my time back.

Very nice collaboration.

It's hard to contribute criticism to a story so well conceived and written.

It's also hard to contribute comments of praise on a story already so well praised.

So then, with that in mind:

👍

As has been stated previously, the switch from enemies to friends was too abrupt. Perhaps delving into that a bit more and shaving off a few pages later in the story would have made good sense.

One day, when I grow up, I want to write as well as you. For now, I shall have to be satisfied by wistfully re-reading this regularly and taking what inspiration I can from it.

Sigh.
