First, let me begin by apologizing, as the original upload of this story was rife with spelling errors, incorrect grammar, and a load of small bits and pieces that could've been worded much better. I've made a number of small and subtle changes that, in my mind, were sorely needed in order to increase the readability. Maybe you won't really notice a difference, but hopefully you do.

Let me also apologize for not uploading the last couple months, and I'm not going to try to make excuses. I simply neglected my erotic writing and focused on other areas of my life, but recently the inspiration has taken hold once more, and I promise it won't be long until chapter two is out. I already have some of it written from way back when, but its been a while since I've paid this story any attention so I need to get back in the groove of things before I'll be finished.

So with that in mind, I bring you this, a thoroughly edited copy of the original, that, in my mind, reads better than the first, while remaining largely unchanged. Enjoy.

-blah blah blah, disclaimer about all characters being atleast 18 years old, the usual.

*****

Alex heard his name being called by a faint voice that sounded muffled, as if it were barely slipping past the gaps in a closed door.

"Alex..."

He looked around and discovered that he was lost in a dense, multicolored fog that surrounded him on all sides. The swirling miasma of pinks, blues, and oranges brought forth a wave of disorientation that left him dizzy and confused.

"Alex."

No longer muffled, Alex could tell that the voice held an otherworldly distortion, like it was echoing back on itself. He spun around and nearly lost his balance as he searched for the source, only to met with more fog.

The hint of a shape appeared in the distance, no more than the ghostly outline of a silhouette. The colors swirled around this unknown shape until it slowly began to take the form of a human. Or at least something resembling a human.

He called out to the figure, "Hello? Who's there?"

The shadow followed Alex's voice to the source and approached, gradually solidifying itself into a blanket of robes that were draped around a distinctly feminine shape. It raised an arm in his direction just as a dark beam of energy shot out from the cloaked appendage, traveling the distance to his chest in the blink of an eye.

His entire body jolted with a powerful surge of otherworldly energy, frightening in it's intensity.

"ALEX!"

Alex's head shot up from the antique wooden desk, a bright red circle immediately apparent on his cheek where it had been pressed into the surface.

This brought him face to face with a very displeased Mrs. Suomi, her dark brown eyes piercing him with a cold glare.

Fuck.

He looked around, not surprised in the least to see that everyone in his Algebra II class was staring him down, no doubt waiting for her to tear him a new one for sleeping in class.

Alex put on his usual calm demeanor almost like one would don a shirt, "Yes, Mrs. Suomi?"

Her voice was laced with displeasure, "That's the third time I've caught you sleeping during class this week. Come see me after school."

He sighed, "Yes Ma'am."

Despite having just been sentenced to two hours of suffering in Hell, Alex wasn't worried. Instead, his mind kept drifting back to the strange dream as he fought to pay attention for the remainder of the class. It was nearly impossible to focus though, considering today's subject was a lecture on imaginary numbers, whatever that meant.

Thinking back, he could vividly recall the swirling colors, the feel of the damp fog seeping into his skin just before a strange figure shot him with what he could only describe as a laser of some sort. The rush of energy was still fresh in his mind, and as he thought on it, he could still feel remnants of the sensation.

He rationalized it as leftover adrenaline from being scared awake, but he couldn't help but feel that there was another aspect to it, one that he couldn't quite put his finger on.

Before he knew it, the bell was ringing, signaling that it was time for his favorite, and last class of the day, Literary Arts.

The students filed out into the hallway, Alex's infraction quickly forgotten as they once again merged into a mass of shallow desires and insecurities, blind to the world around them. He walked out somewhere in the middle of the formation, stealing a parting glance at his teacher, surprised to find that she was watching him with a curious look in her eye.

Alex followed the crowd down the hallway towards his locker, quickly putting in his combination before twisting the handle and retrieving his Intro to Advanced Literary Arts textbook, more commonly known as the ALA. The yellow book was a familiar weight in his hand, the frayed edges showing its wear throughout the years.

He slammed his locker shut, putting in enough force to overcome the resistance of the rusty latch. Alex felt someone creep up behind him, his sixth sense telling him who it was before he even turned around, her familiar presence instantly recognized among the mass of bodies that filled the halls.

"Hello Brianna." He tried to put as much mirth in his voice as he could, but his heart simply wasn't up to it after the events in math class.

Brianna Lockwood, the bane of his existence, smiled despite his dejected tone.

"What's wrong Alex?"

He sighed, turning around to face his best friend. Brianna was a girl that typically slipped under the radar of most people. She was known mainly due to her status as Alex's only friend, but other than that, there wasn't much more that the average student could say about her.

She was pretty. She had a small button nose with full lips, always sporting a slight sheen of gloss. Her height was average, as was her light brown hair. Her figure was attractive, but not jaw dropping. Her legs were long and athletic, but carried a healthy amount of weight to give them a nice rounded appearance without looking fat.

Alex wasn't blind to this, but he didn't consciously acknowledge it either. To him, she was just Brianna, his slightly crazy, smart and funny best friend.

"I'm fine Bree, just a little distracted is all. Suomi gave me after school detention so you'll have to ride the bus."

She frowned at this, "Let me guess, you fell asleep again?"

Alex tried to look bashful, "Maybe...?"

She slapped his arm just hard enough to sting, "You need to stay awake dummy. It doesn't matter how good your grades are if you get flunked for sleeping more in Math than you do in your own bed."

On instinct, they fell into step as they headed towards their final, and shared, class.

He huffed, "I don't see why I need to waste my valuable time on IMAGINARY numbers. I mean come on, it's in the name, they're useless."

She took on a motherly tone, as she usually did when she lectured him about the importance of any number of things he couldn't bring himself to care for.

"The exams don't care about your feelings on the subject, they care about your knowledge, which will quickly deplete if you can't stay awake during class."

He threw his hands up in mock surrender just as they crossed the threshold of Mrs. Garner's room, "I give up, you never recognize when you're wrong. Also, hi Mrs. Garner."

Brianna repeated his greeting after delivering a soft smack to the back of his head, both of them receiving a friendly smile in return.

"Brianna dear, try not to kill poor Alex before the class starts, those incident reports are a hassle to fill out."

Elizabeth Garner was one of the youngest teachers in the entire building, having earned a bachelor's and completed the teacher's preparatory program in just under 4 years.

At first she was very strict, deciding to make a name for herself immediately upon arriving at Jameston High, but quickly warmed up to the students who took her class seriously and put in a modicum of effort. Alex and Brianna were among her favorites, always joking around and laughing, but they still knew when to be quiet and pay attention.

Alex had nearly made Elizabeth lose her composure a number of times with some of the jokes he cracked. She couldn't help but like his lighthearted demeanor and quick wit, despite the bad rep. She had overheard a number of the faculty discussing his general disregard for the rules and customs, but frankly, she never saw it. She had also heard a number of the female faculty discussing some very inappropriate ways to correct some of the male student's behavior. He was always on those lists too.

Some of their ideas made her blush as she recalled the vulgar fantasies. She shook her head, pushing the thoughts from her mind, lest she get distracted by his handsome face, or strong arms, and definitely not the thick veins that traced lines down his biceps and into his forearms.

She pushed those thoughts out of her head once more, forcing herself to start on the curriculum once the last student had taken their seat. "Good afternoon everyone!"

The class sounded off in unison, "Hi Mrs. Garner!"

"Now, who wants to give me a quote? It can be anything from anyone."

A number of hands shot up, belonging to the high-speed academics in the front two rows, but she wasn't interested in any of them. She wanted to pick on the subject of her frustrations.

"How about you Alex?"

She watched him closely as he wracked his brain, figuring that he would give some half-baked quote from Shakespeare.

He cleared his throat before responding, "Those who find happiness in walking alone have never truly been alone, those who take comfort in crowds have never been surrounded, and those who know neither are the luckiest of the three, for they do not know the extremes of life."

Ms. Garner smiled in his direction, "Very good Alex, who said that?"

He shook his head, "Not telling, but, if you can't figure it out by class on Monday, I might take pity on you. Sound fair?"

She raised an eyebrow, "That sounds an awful lot like a challenge young man. I accept."

She directed her attention to the rest of the class, "Now, everyone turn to page 372 and get out your notes."

~~~
Alex closed his locker, expecting Brianna to be standing behind him, waiting to chat before leaving. Instead he was alone, the hallway nearly deserted. He sighed and headed towards room 138, taking a right at the intersection next to the cafeteria. His footsteps echoed throughout the empty hall, bouncing off of the hard ceramic tiles.
He knocked once on the heavy wooden door. It swung open a few moments later, revealing Ms. Suomi in her standard teaching uniform. A light blue button-up with the sleeves rolled up to her elbows, paired with a short, black skirt. Alex was a little surprised to realize she was actually pretty attractive, or would have been if she would stop frowning.
A short Asian lady, no more than 5 foot tall, with delicate, almost pixie-ish features. He could tell that there were some curves hiding under her modest attire, a fact that was hidden under the heavy camouflage of her generally bitchy demeanor.
"Hello Alex, take your seat. I'll have your assignment ready in a few minutes. Until then, I suggest you contemplate whether five minutes of sleep is worth two hours of your free time."
Alex sighed and did as instructed, "Yes Ma'am."
He was alone in the room, which was pretty uncommon considering how much Ms. Suomi loved after school detention. For the first few minutes he followed orders, quickly understanding her point of view, and coming to regret the decision to fall asleep. Even if he didn't actively choose to pass out, it was still no ones fault but his own, he could understand that.
A few minutes after that, the petite Asian got up from her station and came to stand next to Alex's desk. He immediately noticed how good she smelled, but quickly pushed it to the back of his mind and gave her his full attention, even if the hormonal part of his teenage brain was enticed with the fact that he was head level with her crotch. Less than a foot away, he could clearly see the contours of her thighs as the tight fabric wrapped around them like a skin tight blanket, dipping down into her womanly crevice before flowing back up to her waist and giving way to her shirt. He pushed that thought to the back of his mind too, or rather, he tried.
Ms. Suomi let his gaze linger for a moment before she cleared her throat, "Alex."
He had to look up to meet her eyes, "Yes Ma'am?"
"You have two options. Either have your time on the weekend eaten away by the stack of worksheets in my hand, or you can stop staring at my pussy and touch it instead."
His eyes nearly bugged out of his head, his brain barely registering her words, "Um. What?"
She rolled her eyes, "Are you deaf Alex? Either do this stack of worksheets during your free time on the weekend, or you can explain to me why you so easily disregard my class in favor of sleep."
Off guard and blushing, he did his best to recover, "Uh, the second option, I guess."
"Stop saying 'Uh' and 'Um'. I know for a fact you're smarter than that, despite your reluctance to apply your intelligence in my class."
"Sorry, I just thought I heard something else."
Her tone lost some of it's iciness, "No matter. Now do you care to tell me why my class is such a waste of your time? The worksheets are still an option."
He looked at her for a moment, "Do you want the truth? Or do you want me to make up some excuse about not being able to understand the subject and how that causes me to lose interest and fall asleep, etcetera?"
"The truth, please. If my teaching method truly is flawed, I could consider tweaking it. Despite what you students may think, I do care about your education."
"Alright. The truth is, I don't know why I fall asleep during your class. Yes, I think it's boring, but that's because I don't see the point in the subject. Imaginary numbers? Where would I ever use that? But your class isn't the only one I have that problem with, but I don't sleep then, so I'm not sure why it seems isolated to your class specifically."
She considered that for a moment, "Is it the time of day that you just get sleepy or something? Do you not sleep enough at home maybe? Because judging by your answer, it shouldn't be happening."
He thought about it before shaking his head, "No, I don't think so. I get enough sleep most of the time, and I don't really see how the time of day would make me sleepy. It didn't happen last semester when I was in History during that period."
Alex glanced down from her face, and immediately regretted his decision. The top two buttons of her shirt were undone, leaving a small but delicious display of cleavage out in the open. Almost on queue, she crossed her arms, lifting up her cleavage and revealing a sliver of white lace.
Her voice had lost all of it's usual hostility, but was still firm, "Is that the problem young man?"
He blushed and lifted his gaze back up to her face, unable to keep from admiring her collarbones and slender neck.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, does my attire cause you to lose complete interest in the class?"
He entertained the idea for a moment before shaking his head, "Of course not. What are you talking about?"
She sighed, "You're clearly paying attention now, although not to my words apparently. You're staring Alex, I'm not blind."
"Regardless, maybe changing the setting would help. God knows your grades need it."
"What's wrong with my grades? I'm passing the class well enough."
She looked at him as if he were crazy.
"Alex, you have an F. You failed the last test and got a D on the one before that. Add that to your refusal to complete the handouts in class, and your grade has dropped significantly since the last report card."
"Shit."
She was quick to admonish him, "Language young man! You're still in the schoolhouse and I will not tolerate profanity in my classroom. I'd hate to see you fail Alex, but I will not bump your grade up unless you put in effort. The test is Monday, and report cards are Wednesday, likewise, an F will not look good on scholarships, so I suggest you figure something out. Unless you plan on flipping burgers for the rest of your life."
He forced out a laugh, "Ha. Yeah, definitely not. How far in the hole am I?"
"Six points."
His face fell, "Mrs. Suomi, how exactly am I supposed to boost my grade by six percent by Wednesday?"
"That depends. How well do you know the current subject?"
"There are numbers involved?"
She let the disappointment show, "Well, you can't pass the test, and I imagine you haven't been taking notes either. How serious are you about this?"
The false humor was gone, "Mrs. Suomi, I barely make enough to pay rent. Without scholarships, I'm not going to college."
"Rent? Alex, you're eighteen, why are you paying rent?"
He closed his eyes. Fuck.
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
"Uh. I was talking about college, of course. I couldn't pay rent and go to college at the same time. Not that I am now."
"That's not what you said Alex. If you're struggling to support yourself then the school board needs to be made aware, there's no reason-"
"Mrs. Suomi, I appreciate that you're worried, but please don't tell anyone. Nobody knows, and I'd like to keep it that way. Okay?"
She didn't look happy, but conceded, "Okay, but if you're about to go homeless, you need to alert the faculty so we can get that taken care of. Deal?"
He nodded, compromising, "Deal. Now, how am I going to boost my grade six percent by Wednesday, AND pass the test?"
She got up from her perch on the edge of his desk and walked towards her own before scribbling something down on a sticky-note.
"Come here."
Alex got up and made his way to her, receiving the slip of paper in her outstretched hand.
"Come to this address tomorrow at eight AM, bring your books, and don't be late."
He looked at the address, which turned out not to be far from his own. The problem was the time.
"I can't. I have work from seven to four. I'm sorry."
"I understand. Make it five then, after you're done with your shift. Again, don't be late."
Alex nodded, grateful, "Yes Ma'am. I can't thank you enough."
"Don't thank me yet Alex, I don't plan on taking it easy on you. All the same, I want results, not thanks."
The gravity of the situation lightened, he was able to bring back some of his typical humor, "Well if I can actually learn the subject, you'll get both."
At that he turned and left the building, heading towards the parking lot. The red Pontiac Solstice never failed to make him smile. The car contained a lot of good memories with his late father, some of which contained a fair amount of frustration due to the extensive work they had put into the car.
His father had bought it at auction for a great price, all things considered. The car was in perfect condition, if you ignored the truck sized dent in the right side. The owner, instead of having the vehicle fixed, had decided to sell it at auction for nearly a fifth of the original price. Mason Reid had been quick to buy, thinking that a little bodywork could fix the car up into pristine condition in no time. He couldn't have been more wrong, but he and his son were both happier for it in the end.
It took nearly a year for their almost clueless, conjoined efforts to get it into driving shape. But they did it, and enjoyed it every step of the way, forming an even stronger bond over the personal project. It was supposed to be a gift for Alex's eighteenth birthday, unbeknownst to him.
When the big one-eight rolled around, he was shocked that his father had given him such a gift. It wasn't free however. They made a deal that Alex would find a job and pay for half the insurance, and the gas. A week later he was working at a gas station, happily driving around in his 'new' red Coupe.
