I continued with my scenario, “9 and I promise we won’t get up before 8. And we promise to ignore feet running from your bedroom to the guest bedroom.” Mama and Jill extended their hands to indicate they were shaking on the deal.
We arrived home and went to our respective bedrooms. Mama and Jill actually did come in to tuck 9 and me in. We were both naked, of course, and I was glad to give Jill a nice eyeful. When Mama closed the door, 9 smiled at me and asked, “Where do you think Jill is sleeping.”
“I don’t know, but I’m going to guess she isn’t wearing one of Mama’s nightgowns. 9 laughed. I told her what Mama had told me about craving the warmth of the touch of a caring human. “I don’t know if Jill is going to give her any gush practice, but I really hope they wind up sleeping together just so Mama can feel that warmth of companionship again.”
“Make sure you tell her that.”
