Some people never really mature enough to be in a marriage, to devote themselves to just one person, and one person only. If Laura wants to be "free" then she should get divorced and she will then be free to do whatever she wishes. I don't buy the "it's just sex" line; women, especially, have difficulty separating the feelings, the emotions, from the sex act(s). They are all intertwined. Maybe a prostitute can keep emotions out of the equation but most women are not conditioned to doing that. Surgeons can remain dispassionate about cutting up their patients, seeing a lot of blood, and mixing it up with a person's insides, but the ordinary person can't handle that easily and often feels faint, or actually does faint. Men, by the way, are built to more easily deal with casual sex, getting off without the emotional part. Not all men can or do do this but certainly a greater percentage can do this than can women. Tim does not feel comfortable with the "open marriage" thing, and he tries to set a back fire to stop the forest fire, or at least control it. But Laura is really determined to swing and I just don't think she is mature enough to commit to a marriage, which is supposed to be forever (at least, the marriage vows say so). It is only a matter of time before Laura decides to cheat on her own, when she and Tim are back in the States. "It won't hurt him if he does not know . . . " Famous last words. I am surprised that Tim did not suggest counseling. I'm also surprised that neither used condoms. Wouldn't it be interesting if the next chapter finds one or both with an STD that requires treatment . . .

I like how the dynamics have changed. The husband is having quite a bit of fun and his wife, who wanted her "freedom" is discovering the cost. While I agree with others that the first installement was total craptastic, you have more than made up for it with this story. Keep up the good work.

The scale of 1 to 5 is supposed to be about the quality of the story and is what an author should pay attention to. One thing is that this story really got me wondering about how one should behave in these situations. Live has taught me that some times you need to exercise patience and even let people learn hard lesson. I admit though that moment in the first chapter that she spoke for repeating after having agreed that it wasn't on the table. My thought was to divorce her without looking back but I am only an outside observor and do not really feel love for her which make it easier to decide!

I think what Laura needs is to find out what whoring around can get her.

Why are these two wasting time being married? As far as I can tell, friends with benefits sharing a house would work as well without all the extraneous trappings of marriage. Each partner would be free to do as they pleased with whomever they wished. Neither wants monogamy, and neither is in love with the other. They've no interest in progeny, and beyond the possible tax benefits of filing jointly, there's no reason to be married.

Insofar as literature goes, the writing isn't bad. It isn't inspiring but it's tolerably done. The characters don't make sense to me for the reasons outlined above so their development is a waste of time. The plot has no particular conflict and meanders from one scene to another, with little rhyme or reason. The lack of conflict in the plot gives a rather bland feel to the tale, and it was difficult to keep my interest to the end.

It was a truly informative human interest story that seemed to end in a way that I was hoping for. A restless wife with a school girl mentality trying to stay the course with her loving husband. The grass is not always greener on the other side seemed to be the central theme. I was happy to see the retreat into the comfort of her husbands arms at the end. Nice ending in my opinion. Although you kind of ended with an open to interpretation slightly.
