Are you really from Chicago? You certainly know it well, like the geography, but your use of words like “arse” and “having a row” sounds British, not the Chicago vernacular at all. Your main character has no college degree but had a job good enough to afford a 2 bedroom near the lake? That sounds really unlikely. I’m a Chicago girl. Rents are steep. Maybe you could afford a 1bedroom in Logan Square if you’re lucky. But it’s a good story. Well written.
