"Coach elected not to go for the onside kick hoping our defense and three timeouts could give us a chance. I kicked the ball and it landed on the one-yard line and bounced along the line. I had pinned them deep."
Not so fast, Lone Ranger. I understood you to mean the kick landed on the one-yard line and bounced sideways out of bounds.
That calls for an automatic penalty with the ball being placed on the forty yard line - not what anyone would call being pinned back.
And it would be a strange coach who with a two point lead, the ball on his own 40 and 38 seconds to kill would have his quarterback throw a pass
It says they scored a safety, worth 2 points, then kicked the field goal. Five points total.
down by 4 and a field goal is only worth 3 so his kick would not have won the game
