Meh, interesting creature but if I wanted to read a polemic against a religion I would read Richard Dawkins. It distracted too much from the plot.

This is an important part of the plot that makes the hero who he is. I understand you perfectly, but the original idea was to show the tentacles alive and intelligent. And without a backstory, a character has no character.

I adore this story. I keep coming back to it. I wish there were more like this.
