I'll be honest, I was half expecting Charles to turn into a Valkyrie of some kind, but I'm not complaining at all about the direction you went with that.

Plenty of stories are set After the End, a fair number depict Zero Hour, but I can't actually recall one off the top that's set -in- the Apocalypse itself. It's a far more visceral portrayal of Finding the New Self than similar stories, and it's refreshing to see a protagonist with their priorities in order (lesser writers would have Charles/Lilith play doctor right there in the morgue, and/or indulge Agent Riley's 'personal tests'). Despite the fantastic premise, this doesn't discard the human element. I'm a pedant for grammar but this chapter earns full marks; I'm excited to see where you go.

Shout-out to the poetic irony of the character named Faith lacking it when it most counts.

I agree with pretty much everything SirDigbyChickenCaesar said. In addition, I had a thought along the lines of 'rejected by a Faith and literally demonized? Yep, Lilith fits as a name'

The first chapter was full of promise. I read the first several lines of this chapter and stopped, what could have been an incredible story was ruined.
