All Comments on 'Making Amends Ch. 03'

For some reason, folks here don't like dealing with stories where the people involved actually have to pay consequences for their actions. But this was one where everyone pays in one form or another. I really like that. I know that you will get more comments about this, mostly that he should have killed her, (which I probably would have done) or that he was getting bent out of shape about nothing. Either way you can't win except to keep one writing! :-)

I am not sure I like the ending. Does he leave? Does he stay? Can he work through it? There are so many unanswered questions. I hope there is a part 4. I waited anxiously for this part and now I have more questions than answers.

I find this chapter even more depressing than the previous ones. Granted, wife was incredibly stupid and got carried away with her so called revenge . But, in the opinion of almost all of your readers, the most despicable, culpable parties in this whole fiasco are the husbands former "friends" and co-workers. This chapter was more possible and real than any other you have posted that I have read. Love, betrayal, and forgiveness are not simple emotions. I suspect you may have another chapter or two in this saga. It was human and sad and believable.

The first two chapters were well written - realistically to a possible situation. The 3rd is minipulated to the poor reality of non-action or unrealistic action. Why???

Your conclusion is conveluted and unconvincing - even if there is more, the third chapter closing diluted our appreciation of you as an author - do you understand this? It wasn't cute or understandable or in keeping with the direction you created.

Re-writting the third chapter closing makes sense to me to frame a actionable 4th chapter for a better appreciation of you and the stories conclusion. Consider - Regards

I saw the end on another site , the one with the epilogue. You could rewrite this and make the ending a very good one. The natural inclination of a husband should be portrayed here. The man should get even with the bastards that destroyed his marriage. Every one of them would pay dearly. Just like Jim told Sally, "My wife would take me to the cleaners" Everyone of these rotten bastards would pay severely and the husband wouldn't go to jail for assault or murder either.

Also, you didn't convey to the reader a clue why these co-workers hated Bill so much. I mean, these bastards must have really had it in for Bill.

The marriage is salvagable and could even be stronger, but only after Bill has exacted several pounds of flesh from his former co-workers.

Really good writing. I enjoyed it. But the story ending, as it is posted at SOL sucks as far as the way it ends with no retribution whatsoever for these rotten bastards. By changing that end, you have the opportunity to make a good story great.

If there is one thing that irritates me, is the fact that you all tear an authors story apart for the wrong reasons, why? so what if it didn't end the way you wanted it to end, whose story is it anyway? the authors or yours? did any of you try to write a story? if you have you know it isn't as easy as you may think. give this man a break. It is a believable story no matter what our personal feelings are toward the characters. One doesn't always seek revenge or hate, each person deals with a situation as they see fit, wrong or right. Jim's wife would take him to the cleaners. He proudly mocks Bill at the office for what he has done. Why? With everything he has to lose, he should deny, deny, deny. He's seen them on TV. How does he know it wasn't taped? They probably can't be prosecuted for rape, but sexual assault is possible. Their marriages will all be over if it's found out. They will all lose their jobs. Why do they persist? It doesn't make sense from a character motivation point of view. It seems like it is just done to move a story forward without any realism.

Is Bill stupid enough not to consider telling the wives? Could it possibly not have occurred to him. Given that everyone where he worked knows, it's not like he's trying to protect his or his wife's reputation - they are gone. Since he doesn't appear to be that dumb, why doesn't he at least consider it, even if he is going to reject it for some reason?

If she doesn't know what happened, why doesn't he tell her? She knows he was driven out of his job and she knows how she felt physically afterwards. Why doesn't he fill in the details? Is it because he loves her too much to make her suffer? But she isn't going to suffer from her presence making him physically ill and his leaving her and divorcing her without talking about it? That doesn't make sense.

We don't ask that you write a story that has actions we approve of; that the results be the ones we would choose. We ask that the actions make some kind of sense. They didn't.

Whew! I never saw this ending coming, probably because this is the first emasculated husband I've read about. His attitude goes beyond that of a cuckold. You've created a character who rationalizes his lack of gonads and assumes that ESCAPING from his family is being good for his son. Incredible!

Now if this husband were leaving to go into some kind of male "rehab" or counseling, then I could buy his actions. If he left because his wife's values were incompatible with his own, that I could understand. But you're making him sound as if he's being noble by running away.

I must assume that you have a chapter 4 in process, if not, then I've grossly overrated this one. But given the mindset you gave this man at the end of chapter 3 I almost cringe imagining what his possible actions in some hypothetical chapter 4 might be.

I don't think so. At keast, it shouldn't be. He still has to exact revenge on the four 'friends", somehow. If he does NOTHING besides telling Jims wife about it it is better than nothing.

Although you did a good job of showing the pain and heartache slowly tearing them apart, the Husband's lack of balls is really dragging the story downhill. He needs to get back at his exfriends, something that will knock them down a notch or two. He needs to stick it out with his family, leaving is not the answer. REAL men don't leave their wives and children, that's a pussy's way of handling things.

One thing that was very good was the wife learned she couldn't just gloss over his hurt with sex. She needs to accept blame for what she did, WITHOUT any excuses! That would go a long way toward healing their marriage. Overall, this is a very good story, but give the husband some gonads.

In this type of situation this is possibility how things could end. But through all this you have showed Bill as loving her and continuing to love her. If you wanted this type of ending why did Bill hang around I would have been gone the next morning. I don't feel this chapter fits how the story has gone up to this point. Wont you Please read your first chapters and give us an ending that fits, Bill is no wimp he dose love his wife, should they get through this and as a loving couple put alittle hurt on Bill's ex boss and ex friends. you set the tone of a very good story now make a great ending.
