Sounds like you need to make a more sophisticated character that grows beyond Suri or Jen. A character's day job could be interesting as you need it for a happy romance. That the character is transsexual or one ethnicity or sporting a hydra's nest of dicks should only be a logistical concern when it comes to sex. The world beyond the characters goes on (realistically speaking).
