That I hadn't commented on this chapter earlier. For me this is where Nate begins to get interesting. Nate is a sex offender no doubt about it and whilst Nate's and Colin's perversions on the face of it seem very similar they are vastly different.

Therefore Nate's self justification of separating himself from Colin is justifiable. Colin is far more cruel and self centred and has no interest in their sexual needs or any empathy at all for his victims.

Nate on the other hand, at least gives, encourages orgasms and whilst he lacks empathy for his victims, he does at least accept their anger, he doesn't care but he doesn't take it away from them either. There is world of difference in how a person recovers from a trauma and firmly laying the blame on the perpetrator is a good starting point.

This I think is why Nate feels the need to punish Colin. Colin is letting the side down for sadists and sex addicts, giving them all a bad rep, or ,there maybe some residue guilt and as bad as Nate is he's not as bad as Colin and someone should be punished, preferably not himself.
