A fixed wheel cannot pedal backwards to brake. That's a free wheel. Fixed wheel originated in track racing and had no brakes. You slowed to a stop by controlling the pedal speed.

I really loved this story, I don’t think this is meant to be like a regular story where you build up the characters. If anything it is just a short story leading up to the sex scene. I personally think it great and I loved it.
