"I love you," he said, slurring his words as exhaustion overtook his senses.
Sally kissed her son on the top of his head as a single tear trickled down her cheek and into his hair. "I love you, too, baby. I love you, too. Now get some sleep. You're literally gonna be fighting for your life tomorrow."
Nicky didn't hear anything past the first line. He was already out cold.

I did, didn’t I? Believe me when I say I thought about it, hard. (Pun intended *wink*) But that would have thrown everything in an ENTIRELY different direction. LOL
