"You did," Nick replied. "And very thoroughly too."
"Thank you," I said quietly. We both knew I wasn't referring to him complimenting my technique in bed. I turned my head and reluctantly opened my eyes enough to meet his gaze. "For...well. For everything."
He leaned over to kiss me, slow and gentle. He pulled back after a moment so he could look me in the eye. "He'd be proud of you, you know."
"For nearly fucking us both into a coma?"
"I meant for the person you've grown into, but yeah, that too. He was a bit of a tool."
"Rarely wrong, though," I said, and smiled.
