The very first sentence told me that this was going to be a challenge.

“ You stood among the shadows cast by the mid-day sun as it fell towards the horizon marking the start of the evening.”

The mid-day sun is just that - the sun at mid-day, not the start of evening. The mid-day sun does not cast long shadows.
