Curious to hear more of Jess - I suspect you know the history far better than I do, but for a Jewish family to be living in England between 1290 and 1657 hints at some interesting backstory.

Indeed it does, and we know that under Elizabeth some Jews came back into the country. It is significant that Jess's mistress came from Lancashire where there were more Recusants, as we know there were connections there - hence the later witch trials.

This story just keeps getting better and better. So often I’ve found stories can’t maintain my interest all the time and some will power is required to press on in the hope of better things to come. Not so with this story, every paragraph makes me want more. Thank you!
