"The dauntless three held the bridge..." Reminded me of the story of Horatio. There is a further Romanesque touch in these last two chapters, that of the purple stripes on the tunics (were they broad-stripers or narrow-stripers---don't mind me, Pixie, I've got the sort of mind that wonders about things like that). Another first-rate chapter, you haven't let us down yet!
...is an understatement. For me, this is the best chapter of yours that I have read. And the others have all been terrific. The dramatic battle at the start was extremely well written. I felt the tension in every word. The lovemaking scene between Ana and Rahab was beautiful. However, my favorite part was Rahab not wanting what she had with Ana to end. This was simply perfect:
" I needed to get back. But then, with Ana, I had found something I had never known. Here was not simply lust for pleasure, here there was a meeting of souls. How could I leave her? The dilemma was painful, but I knew I could not realise what was expected of me here, in this sacred place. That, alas, was not my lot. There was a sudden sense of anguish."
The ending had me quite choked up, hoping that somehow Rahab and Ana could eventually be together. I am always in awe of any writing that can make me feel that type of emotion. And you have done it, Pixie. Thank you! :)
Yes, the echoes of Horatio were deliberate, and as you will see, the Bodyguard is in fact the last remnant of Ancient Rome.
Thank you, that’s the greatest of all compliments. Stay tuned and see 😊
Absolutely fabulous writing, and not in the TV comedy sense! So happy that Rahab & Ana have found their soulmates in each other. So sad that Rahab & Ana have had to part, hopefully it is only for the time-being.
Thank you, Evie, well if you continue with the saga, you will see that your hopes will be fulfilled xx
