I decided I'd have another drink and then go.
It had been a pleasant evening, the sort of thing I needed. I was conscious that all work and no play could indeed make Jill a dull girl. I finished my drink and headed for home.
The lights of the docks dotted the horizon, providing a picturesque backdrop to the view along the sea front. I realised that if I walked much further, I'd be into the area frequented by the prostitutes, so decided to take the back route. I wrapped my shawl around me. It was getting cool.
As my eyes adjusted, I thought to myself that the red-light district must be spreading, as I saw a man and a woman kissing urgently down one of the alleys. I moved quietly, not wanting to disturb them. They also moved, and it was with a shock that I recognised the woman as a streetlight lit up her face - it was Elena. She had not seen me. But I had seen her, and the man. It was Dimitri!

Ekphrasis9 months agoAnother excellent installment. You have an acute understanding of the CofE that impresses the hell out of me. But more importantly the story is developing a texture and is so sure-footedly told. And the sex delayed is the sex enhanced. No pressure! Kxxx

Your writing is sensitive and intimate, whether exposing criminal activity, exploring the challenges and ironies of the theocracy, or engaging in a lusty erotic romp!
And you do it in brief entertaining chapters with a touch of humor and pathos!
