"No, but still beautiful," she said. "Like you."

The last glint of day died away; Dusk shrugged her cloak out over us.

"What shall we make for supper?"

I smiled. "Something light and easy. I don't mind."

"Alright then. I'll cook, you clean. Come on."

She rose to her feet, and pulled me up after her.

She wrapped her arm around me, hand on my hip where she always loved to have it, marking me as hers before all of Heaven and Earth.

"Come on, lover," she breathed.

"So make me, then," I answered her, grinning.

"I know how to tempt you. Dinner, then dessert : some lovely, rich, succulent cake."

"Tease," I proclaimed.

"I know. Come on."

We set off back up the slope beneath the first winking stars of evening to where our chalet waited for us, candles already lit and red wine airing.

Behind me was nothing but the sea sinking into the gentle pastel tones of evening.

Beneath me was nothing but the soft sand, still warm under my bare feet.

And ahead of me, nothing waiting but laughter, light, and, at last, the embrace of my love's arms.

The hot of not doing

I'm trying to learn from this story. Even though the unique love of these two women frames it, the love of any two people can echo this. What I learned is something a bit mysterious to me: the way, mostly for women, the anticipation and even especially the denial of feelings is hotter and *bigger* than giving in to them. The mystery for cis dudes is the way *denying feelings one knows in one's heart of hearts are there* is such a strong trope in romance fiction. And a stone turn on for women. Premise for a story for men: 'Maybe I can have her.' Premise for a story for women: 'Maybe I can't have her,' Given too that this is a 'first time' story you could have drawn out every touch and kiss with doubts and self questioning even more. And since this is a 'queer romance' you have all the questioning about 'what this means' and what society thinks. I like Ari and Charley. Very 21st century women. Bravo.

Beautiful story. I enjoyed the slow build up to their full eventual relationship. The ending was perfect.

This was the first story in the Lesbian category that i have read. Wonderful writing! I cheered these two on hoping that they would end up together and not just sexually.
