Shawn groaned in protest and logged out of his game for the night.

As Kendall dug through Shawn's closet looking for nice clothing, she discovered outfits she had no idea he had. She had only seen him dress nicely on rare occasions like family gatherings, job interviews, and work events. However, Kendall admittedly loved how Shawn looked when he put effort into his appearance. Some product in his hair was the most effort he ever made, and he always dressed like a bum. So finding nice clothes in his closet was a surprise.

"Are you kidding me!?" Kendall paraded as she emerged from the closet with clothes draped over both arms, "how come you never wear any of this?"

Shawn shrugged, sitting on his bed and twiddling his thumbs.

"You look so good when you try," she said, "it drives me nuts that you don't wear this stuff. Do you not like the way it looks?"

"It's not that," Shawn groaned, "you know I don't care how I look."

"Yeah, well," Kendall sighed as she laid several pieces of clothing on the bed beside him, "you're going to make some effort tonight. Got it?"

"Hold on," Shawn chuckled, hooking Kendall's belt loop with his finger and pulling her between his knees, "am I crazy, or is this a date?"

Kendall planted her hands on his collars as Shawn held her hips, looking up at her.

"What's so crazy about that?" Kendall challenged him with a playful grin.

"Aren't you worried about your friends seeing you on a date with your stupid brother?" Shawn asked with a raised eyebrow.

Kendall's expression slowly changed as she ran her hand through his hair. She had been thinking about what would happen to them if anyone learned of their relationship and how she would handle it. It was a significant concern, but in her heart, she had resolved to choose Shawn no matter what.

"It wouldn't change anything for me, you know," Kendall spoke softly, playing with his hair.

Shawn listened to her closely, feeling that the energy of their talk had suddenly changed to a more serious one.

"If people found out, I mean..." she went on bashfully, "not saying we should shout it from the rooftops, but nothing will ever change how I feel about you. You know that, right?"

"Hey, c'mere," Shawn whispered sweetly, seating her on his lap between his legs.

Kendall gently placed her hands on his face, chewing her bottom lip as her eyes wandered his features. Before connecting with her brother on this new level, she had never felt so enthralled by a person. Despite spending their entire lives together, Shawn had become something wildly different to her in such a short period. She struggled to wrap her head around it as she felt his face and studied his expression. Never before had someone made her heart sing with their eyes and her body rejoice with their touch.

"Don't worry about all that," Shawn responded with his hands around her hips, "as long as your friends don't get the wrong idea, I'll go."

A smile slowly began forming as Kendall rubbed his cheeks with her thumbs.

"Well, lucky for us," she began with a smirk, "my friends won't be there."

Shawn made a confused expression.

"Don't you always go out with Grace and them on Saturday?" He asked.

"Yeah," Kendall answered softly, "but I figured we could do our own thing tonight."

"This is a date, you weirdo!" Shawn called out, shaking her playfully in his grip.

Kendall laughed, giving him a loving peck before resting her forehead against his and wrapping her arms around his neck. She held him tightly, rolling her lips in and tasting their kiss, completely enchanted by their new dynamic.

Footsteps approaching thudded toward the room and made Kendall quickly stand up from Shawn's lap. She grabbed a piece of clothing off the bed to prepare for their next act. Shawn scrambled to his feet and took a few steps away from her.

"No, you should wear this one!" She yelled as someone knocked on Shawn's door.

"But I don't like that- come in!" Shawn called out with his best acting.

Their mom's head poked in, and she began analyzing the debate in his room.

"What are we dressing up for?" She asked curiously with a slight grin.

"Hey, Mom," Shawn greeted her, "I've got a work event coming up, and I was going to ask this goober for help picking an outfit. Regret that already," he sneered with a fake attitude.

"Oh, stop!" Kendall growled, "who's the one with a sense of fashion here, dork? I'm telling you, this is the one!"

"Okay, okay! Enough!" Their mom approached them, clapping her hands to break them up, "are you two ever going to grow out of the name-calling? Jeez," she sighed.

Shawn and Kendall exchanged glances, letting each other know they were impressed with their performance. Their mom had no clue, and she bought their acted fight immediately.

"You two can fight about that later," she continued, "your dad and I are trying to figure out dinner. Do we cook? Do we order pizza? Cast your votes."

Shawn and Kendall gave each other concerned looks, knowing this would prevent them from going out tonight.

"Um! Actually..." Kendall spoke, "believe it or not, the hermit is coming with me tonight. Isn't he?" She gave him a look.

"Y-yeah!" Shawn agreed, looking at their mom excitedly, "that's right."

Their mom crossed her arms with a dumbfounded expression. She knew it was abnormal for Shawn to go anywhere near a bar, much less leave the house on a Saturday.

"Is that so?" She asked with a smile growing on her face.

Shawn looked at Kendall. Her eyes flicked toward their mom, telling him to say whatever it took.

"Uh-yeah! I should probably get out more and stop playing so many video games," Shawn chuckled nervously.

Their mom gave Kendall a wide-eyed look of surprise as she approached Shawn, never thinking she'd see the day when he chose socializing over gaming.

"Who are you, and what have you done with my son?" She jabbed, rubbing his bicep firmly.

Shawn shrugged with a goofy face.

"Well," she continued, "I hope you have a great time tonight, honey," she smiled, turning around to leave the room, "do not let anyone pressure him into drinking or anything else, Kendall," she commanded before shutting the door.

"I won't!" Kendall sang, waiting to hear the door click.

Shawn exhaled loudly, flopping onto his back against the bed and covering his face with his hands. Kendall immediately doubled over and laughed at his reaction, causing Shawn to lift his head and glare at her.

"You're just loving this, aren't you?" He asked with an attitude.

"Oh, come on!" Kendall cried out, fighting to halt her laughter, "you don't think this is even a little fun?"

"You're insane," he retorted, shaking his head.

Shawn let his head fall back and hit the bed again, wondering why the danger of being caught amused Kendall so much. He felt the bed shake as she scrunched up next to him.

"Hey," she spoke softly, "it's going to be okay. Tonight will be so much fun."

Shawn looked over at her as she lay beside him with fidgeting hands.

"And..." She continued with a hesitant look, "it'll probably be pretty late when we get back, so..." Her eyes nervously worked their way back to his.

"You've been thinking about that too, huh?" Shawn cracked a smirk.

Kendall chewed her lip and gently nodded with a slight look of embarrassment while her hands fussed.

"Hey, stop," Shawn softly commanded as he rolled onto his side and grabbed her hands to stop her.

"I know, I know, sorry..." Kendall complied, lowering her hands, wishing she could manage her habit better.

Shawn leaned on his elbow and studied Kendall for a moment. She stared right back into his eyes as they sat in silence.

"What?" She asked with the slightest smirk.

Shawn's eyes wandered around her face, taking in her gorgeous eyes, soft lips, and supple skin.

"I dunno," he mumbled with a warm grin, "you're just... Perfect."

Kendall's face scrunched up like she was trying to prevent the big, dumb smile from forming.

Shawn snickered through his nose at her as he watched her fail to keep a straight face.

"Stop!" Kendall laughed, tugging his shirt near his collar, "you can't say stuff like that!"

"Oh, can't I?" Shawn joked, leaning in to kiss her.

Kendall agilely evaded him, causing Shawn to miss and fall forward a bit.

"Not until you get dressed," she said with a cute smile.

Shawn rolled his eyes and sat up, walking toward his closet with Kendall's chosen outfit.

As Shawn shut the door behind him, Kendall placed her hand on her chest and exhaled hard through her mouth with her eyes closed. She couldn't believe the effect his words had on her. His raw expressions of his feelings toward her made her heart flutter with bliss. She suddenly recalled how, even on Bradley's best days when he tried his hardest, his sweet, loving side was still slightly abrasive and felt fabricated, whereas Shawn made her feel beautiful, safe, and loved just by being himself. Shawn's love felt effortless and genuine. It was as if his very being was woven together in a way that cradled her heart. She shook her head, her chest thumping at the thought of his words moments ago. As frightening as it was, Kendall began wondering how deep her feelings ran for her brother. She pondered on the dangerous possibility of falling for him.

The sound of the closet door opening broke her thoughts, causing her to look up and see Shawn emerge. He wore a dark grey button-down with the sleeves rolled up to his forearms and a nice pair of dark jeans. A slick, black v-neck rested beneath his button-down and complimented his skin tone. Shawn already had his hair up that day, and the sight of him made Kendall's jaw drop. She stood up from the bed and slowly approached him, looking him over in awe.

"Well?" Shawn asked, lightly brushing himself off and rotating side to side.

"This is so not fair..." Kendall groaned as she ogled him, "you are so hot!"

"You're being nice," Shawn chuckled, looking himself over.

"Um, no," Kendall contested, "and I'm suddenly glad you told me no all those times I asked you to come out with us."

"Why?" Shawn laughed as he looked over at her.

"Because look at you! All of my friends would be trying to fuck you!" Kendall called out with a massive smile on her face.

"Doubtful," Shawn modestly deflected.

Kendall stood before him, analyzing his outfit. Then, she reached up and straightened his collar, making him look as neat as possible.

"There," she sighed, stepping back and looking him over one final time.

"Am I ready?" Shawn asked with a twinge of excitement.

"Definitely," Kendall reassured him with a sexy smile, "and, as promised," she went on, wrapping her arms around his torso.

Her lips pressed against his, and they shared a loving peck. She gently rubbed his back with her hands as they gazed at each other.

"One more thing," Kendall chirped.

"Now what?" Shawn joked sarcastically.

"If you don't let me get pictures of us tonight, I will never forgive you!" She shook him in her arms, causing them both to laugh.

"Yeah, yeah," Shawn begrudged, knowing he didn't enjoy being in pictures but would tolerate it for Kendall.

"Okay, I'm going to go get ready," Kendall hopped excitedly and ran toward her room, "don't you dare get anything on that outfit, dork!"

He watched her sprint from his room, feeling nervous and excited to go out with Kendall tonight.

Shawn pondered what things would be like tonight as he sat at his computer. He had been to bars before but had never been out on a dance floor where all the people were. Shawn had mild anxiety, but his excitement to be with Kendall overshadowed it. He knew he would be fine if she stayed with him. Part of him was optimistic that they would have a great time tonight, but Shawn couldn't help but worry that someone they knew would see them. Worries began to form in his gut as he waited for Kendall to get ready because, as much as he loved her, he knew the weight of the consequences if anyone found them out.

The sound of Shawn's door opening interrupted his anxious thoughts, and he looked up to see Kendall dressed and ready for their night out. She looked just like the night of their first kiss, wearing a dark grey dress to match his shirt with gorgeous makeup. He stood up from his computer chair and slowly walked toward her, smitten by her beauty, unable to say anything.

"How do I look?" She asked quietly, standing before him.

"Kendall, I-... Wow!" Shawn could barely find the words.

A smile slowly crept across Kendall's face as Shawn looked her over. Her dress was similar to the one she wore when she first kissed him, and Shawn immediately recognized her perfume from that day. Her makeup was subtle yet elegant. He had never seen someone so perfect in his life.

"Ready when you are," Kendall said, looking her brother over with delight.

Shawn and Kendall snuck through the house and made it to the car without being seen by their parents. Their first date was off to a great start, and they were excited to be away from home for the night. Feelings of thrill and paranoia coursed through Shawn as he pulled out of the driveway, while Kendall couldn't stop thinking about dancing on her brother tonight. They knew they were playing a dangerous game, but that didn't stop them. So far, their improv acting and quick thinking were enough to evade their parents, but would that same luck follow them into public? There was only one way to find out.

Chapter 10: What Are the Chances?

The car ride to the club was relatively calm. Shawn's nerves were on edge because of his anxieties about being seen by someone they knew, but Kendall continued reassuring him that everything would be fine. She explained to him that her friends frequented several bars in the city, and the odds of them appearing at the same one they were going to tonight were obscenely low. Kendall even picked their least favorite one to make sure. Around the halfway point of their commute, Shawn felt less paranoid. He trusted Kendall and knew she wouldn't tell him whatever he wanted to hear to get him to agree to go out with her. She wanted this to be as enjoyable for him as it would be for her.

As they pulled into the club's parking lot, Shawn saw how packed it was. Parking was scarce, and he could hear the music thumping inside from the edge of the lot. Neon lights of all colors flashed through every window and crevice in the building, and tons of people poured in through the doors. Settings of this nature were his worst nightmare, but he remained calm and ignored his anxiousness the best he could.

Shawn wiggled his shifter into neutral and lifted his handbrake before giving Kendall a nervous look. She reached over and gently grabbed his hand, holding it tightly in his lap.

"You okay?" She asked, listening closely to make sure he was at ease.

Kendall knew that Shawn was terrible at communicating his emotions and would often lie to make people stop worrying about him. But she noticed how he looked at the club entrance, seeing all those people squeeze in like sardines.

"Yeah, I'm okay," he nodded reassuringly.

Kendall analyzed him momentarily, knowing he would say that even if he wasn't.

"Listen," she went on, "I know you don't usually do this kind of thing, and I'm so happy you're trying it with me, but we don't have to stay if you don't like it. 'Kay?"

Shawn listened as she empathized with his dislike for everything they were about to do.

"I mean it," Kendall continued, "you know me. I'm just as happy grabbing a pizza and watching scary movies all night. So please don't go in there and hate your life for me," she tugged his arm with a playful grin, "say something if you wanna leave!"

Shawn cracked a smirk as she pulled his arm. Kendall smiled at him, admiring his willingness to leave his comfort zone on such short notice. She loved that he was with her tonight.

"Deal," Shawn responded, raising his pinky.

Kendall locked her pinky with his, and they left the car to begin their night out.

The music grew louder as they approached the entrance. Kendall led Shawn inside by his hand, fully committed to their dangerous game. They showed their identification at the door and slipped in without issues. The air was hot, and the smell of alcohol filled Shawn's head as Kendall led him past the busy bar area. The music was crushingly loud, and people were dancing, drinking, and moving to its rhythm in every direction Shawn looked. Kendall eventually guided him to a table away from the dance floor where they could hear each other talk without yelling.

She wrapped her arms around the back of his neck as they stood in front of their booth.

"Let's call this base camp," she smiled at him, raising her voice a bit, "if you need to sit or take a break from the noise, just meet here."

"Alright," Shawn agreed, holding her waist in his hands.

"Ready?" She asked excitedly.

"I guess," Shawn mumbled, looking over her head at the enormous crowd before them.

"Come on," Kendall grabbed his hand and pulled him straight toward them.

Shawn's nerves began jittering with every step they took toward the dance floor. He despised loud, unrelenting noise, and the idea of being smushed against strangers unnerved him. But, as they entered the ocean of sweaty, drunk people, Kendall turned her head to give him a reassuring smile. Her eyes told him that she was here for him, and him only. Shawn took a deep breath and exhaled, knowing Kendall would not force him to stay if he truly hated it. He held her hand tightly and followed her to the DJ's platform, where the enormous monitors were.

As the electronic melody of the song playing spiked, Kendall grabbed Shawn's hands, placed them around her belly with her back to him, and began dancing the way she loved. He held onto her without moving, trying to ease into this strange, new setting. Shawn only knew goofy dances that came out in the kitchen when they cooked or cleaned; he knew that wouldn't fly here. His mind wondered what he was supposed to do other than hold onto her.

"Just move the way I do!" Kendall yelled with her head turned to the side, "feel my body and follow my rhythm!"

Her hands gripped his against her belly, guiding him as she pressed her ass against his groin, moving her hips to the music. Shawn nearly forgot about the ocean of people surrounding them as he felt her hands around his and her body moving with him. He held onto her, and she anchored him in a way that eased his anxiousness as they danced. Shawn suddenly did not have a worry in the world about being seen, the people around them, or the chaotic noise. All he could think about was feeling Kendall's body and how beautiful she was. The way she gripped his hands kept him focused entirely on her, and everything else faded away.

Before he knew it, Shawn had settled into a rhythm and was moving with Kendall through every song. She eventually turned to face him and couldn't help but smile as he danced with her. As Shawn moved his body and ignored his anxiety for once, he watched Kendall softly mouth the words to each song while she danced. Kendall had worked up a light sweat from how hot it was, and her body moved like liquid. She was incredible at dancing, and everyone kept looking at her. Shawn noticed both men and women ogling her while Kendall danced. He wondered if people stared at her like this every time she went out.

Shawn grew sweaty and tired going into their second hour on the dance floor, and he was ready to slip away and take a break.

"I'm gonna go get us some water!" He called out over the thumping music.

"Okay!" Kendall responded.

She tightened her grip before their hands separated, causing Shawn to look back at her. When he saw her, she looked him up and down with a provocative smile, admiring him. Shawn felt his blood flash beneath his skin as he saw how sexy and confident she was, and without thinking, he stepped forward, yanking her toward him by her hand, pressing his mouth against hers. The fire within him couldn't resist her. It burned out of control as his other hand gripped the back of her head while he tasted her mouth. Kendall clawed at his shirt and moaned as her brother kissed her deeper and more aggressively than ever before. The rush of doing such a thing in public made her body flare with delight.
