Chapter 30 No Plan is Perfect

Eldar walked back to the group, "Back to the stables. Captain New Moon, you are in charge of getting the detail back into our territory. I will be leaving immediately with Blaze and my apprentices once we have our horses."

The Captain nodded and they hurried back through the town and to the stables. Eldar looked to the Warrior Guild Leader, "Another crisis somewhere. I have to return. Please let the King know I appreciate his time and I am sorry it was so brief."

He nodded, "Starting to sound like a diplomat."

Eldar chuckled, "My father is the diplomat. I maneuver battlefields, not royal courts."

They got the horses and mounted up. He had them pull up as close to him as possible. He cast his spell and was on the front lawn of the royal palace with both of his apprentices and Blaze.

---

The Lady of Dreams was in shock. She just passed on the spirit of Heliar into the afterlife to his lover Elara Strong Oak who had been waiting for him. Heliar asked, "What about Eldar? My Son Elios? The woman I was to marry?"

She sighed, "This was not your time to die. I cannot speak to her or your other children yet as we are focused on your son who will alter the course going forward. Your son's future is uncertain now. Some of them lead to his death, others would include his unborn or the destruction of the entire house in the worst of circumstances.

I just do not know yet. Anytime Dragons get involved it messes with our abilities to predict accurately. We will see these things as ripples and multiple futures. His actions will dictate events. At least 2 events of that nature came into play as the field the necromancer cast was Draconic Necromancy.

As were the wards he set up throughout the great room of the Human Palace that killed all of the arcane casters who threatened him with magic. Once our asset that is still alive was within sight we could see what happened. It is chaos.

We will do what we can for him, but have to let him make these choices. Only small nudges of guidance for now. I am seeing over 300,000 different permutations right now. It had fallen to 50,000 just moments before. Both of you may watch over him for now. Find peace, please."

She did not want to discuss the Amulet of Sartior or how a Relic designed in the 1st Age for Dragons was fundamentally altering Eldar and his future children. That it would be adding to this chaos. She sent them on and would keep them informed, somewhat. The Relic she could not talk about.

Corellon showed with Bahamut who groaned out, "I fucking hate that Accord as much as you do. It is not time to end it just yet, your people need to be better protected for what is to come and Eldar is building that. Eldar going now is likely a foregone conclusion. I have no insight into that battlefield. His Blade Singer Code would have him see to this task concerning his father's death."

Corellon nodded, "I am hoping he survives the encounter. I don't know what he will do. He has not been given the facts yet, and the way his mind works, he could surprise us all in how he handles the problem."

---

Eldar looked at his apprentices, "Another spell I will teach you when you are ready. You will have it in your book long before you are ready."

He rode forward to the groom, "The Queen said she would get a couple of Royal Guards to escort my 2 appreciates to House Silvertree. Let them know they are my apprentices. They need access to the training ground to work on sword and bow skills. Also, to the stables to take care of their horses. Do not forget your reading assignments."

His apprentices nodded at the indirect direction.

He looked at them, "Wait here for your escort. Blaze you are with me."

They dismounted. "I do not know how long I will be here. I was called back immediately by the Queen. The horses will stay in place as always."

He headed up to the palace and walked in. The Captain of the guard seemed to be surprised.

Eldar looked at him, "I was summoned by the Queen, can you take me to her?"

He nodded and took Eldar up to a familiar conference room. He knew a lot of the faces in here including those of the Dragon friends from the assault force. Right after they entered the wall closed up and the room was sealed.

Jarron looked over, "Everything went wrong in Grand Falls. The Human King is dead as is the Wizard. There is now a power vacuum as there are 3 different factions of the royal family attempting to gain control."

Eldar nodded, "So the other approach did not work. How many dead?"

Jarron sighed, "Best guess is we lost 20 human arcane agents including 2 captains who were some of our best casters. It apparently turned into an all-out wizard war in the middle of the chamber. They were there to be guards and were slaughtered in mass is what I am being told. Though the information is vague.

That does not count nobles in the court at the time or other civilians. We are talking about hundreds of dead. The wizard got tipped off by either a spell ward or a spy of his own when we hit the caches is our best guess. They were having a Royal reception, a Conclave of the Kingdoms nobility."

Eldar nodded, "We need them stable and honoring their agreements. Have we secured everything? Are the funds still in Dragon's hands?"

Lord Regal looked at Eldar, "We went ahead and secured everything from the sites so they would not be used against each other."

Eldar nodded, "Well that is one less worry. The Queen was distraught when she called me. Where is she?"

Jarron sighed, "She is resting, the King was a good friend to her."

Eldar slammed a chair across the room in his frustration, "I know the Dragons position. I know what I am currently tied up doing. My question is what are the Knights doing to minimize this conflict and quickly?"

Jarron walked across, "Currently nothing. We do not have more forces in the area in any number to effect any change. There is more we have yet to say." He paused for a few seconds before speaking. "We believe your father is among the dead. We just do not know anymore as everything from the city has gone dark."

Eldar looked at him, "The ambassador?"

He nodded, "That is how we have what information we have. Yet he is now confined to his quarters."

Eldar thought for a moment, "Is he a caster?"

He nodded, "Yes he is a caster. Just not a great one, he was a better ambassador in that regard as he is a distant cousin to the Queen."

Eldar took a seat, "I need the Queen to sign a diplomatic order authorizing me to go to Grand Falls. I need your ambassador to teleport back here and I will put on a diplomatic hat and find out what I can about my father. While there I can look things over. I need 6 men from my detail here that you were going to take.

Two arcanes and the rest all out tanks.Time for them to get another mission. They can act as my guard. Not Lieutenant Silver Bow, we have no use for archers in this. Without more insight, you're planning blind."

Lord Regal looked at Jarron, "He would be operating in your area?"

Eldar shook his head, "Technically no I would not be. His men will be but I am recognized as a Duke by all 3 allied Kingdoms for that section of the border. I would be on a diplomatic fact-finding mission for our Queen. I know how to play in the gray areas as well."

Jarron chuckled, "I will go speak with the Queen if she agrees you got your men."

Eldar nodded, "Blaze go with him. The Queen will want to see you. This is one mission you will not be going on. Don't forget Charlemagne, she will kick both our asses. Send a messenger. She may already be on her way if my apprentices arrived."

Blaze looked at Eldar, "Why?"

Eldar looked at him, "This is not a Gray Blades matter. Your position in the Knight's is tied to this location, the Queen needs your support, and she would kick my ass if I took you. She specifically made it clear she did not want you in Grand Falls.

When and if she goes back for any funeral in the future, we will see if she has you as a part of that detail. This one is on me. I had no details other than she needed me back. She was distraught. I thought she could use your support. Now be the good nephew."

He sighed and nodded. Jarron looked over, "I will take care of that too."

Jarron walks off with Blaze and the doorway opens up. Lord Regal walked over as Eldar backed away from the chair he leaned against as he wanted to pick it up and smash it across the table, "You would make a lousy Dragon because of your patience. I will say your ideas even in a crisis like this are a wonder to watch."

Eldar glared, "I thank the Gods you cannot try and make me a dragon to go with everything else people are throwing at me."

Lord Regal chuckled. "Things go well with the Dwarves?"

Eldar nodded, "I got an unexpected hand from a couple of dwarven sappers who were on that mission and happened to be in the hall when I spoke with the warriors. That went a long way to shutting down the questions."

Lord Regal nodded," I had nothing to do with that but I am glad they took the time."

Jarron walked back in with Charlemagne who rushed into his arms. "What happened?!"

Eldar looked at her, "All went bad in Grand Falls. All of the Nine Hells broke loose." He looked at Jarron. "Are we a go?"

Charlemagne looked at Eldar, "A go for what?"

Eldar looked at her, "To find out if my father is dead and if so, recover his body. The human King and the wizard are also supposed to be dead. There is a power struggle going on."

Charlemagne looked at Eldar, "We are walking into that!?"

Eldar nodded, "Jarron has no forces and I have diplomatic status and it is my father. I have a few reasons to be there and to assess the situation. You should not go given the variables of your condition. You could become a liability if we face any heavy combat."

She shook her head, "Better with you than without you."

Eldar kissed her tenderly. "Would that be for the love we share or the love for your unborn children? I can do this one without you at my side. If I am walking into a firefight trying to save my father or recover his body while protecting my wife might prove too much of a challenge. I need to focus on this task. I have no idea of the force or forces we could encounter."

She frowned at him but nodded, "Only because I need you to be focused and this is bad enough."

Eldar looked over at Jarron, "Now Jarron, you going to answer my question?"

He nodded, "The Queen has agreed. She wants you out of there if any problems crop up."

Eldar nodded, "Like I will have any control over that."

Jarron chuckled, "I sent for the 2 Sergeants and one of the squads you want. The ambassador will be here in 5-6 hours. He is secure and working to regain or reallocate spells."

Eldar nodded, "Enough time to sleep and regain and change a couple of my spells."

He moved over to a wall in the room and slid down. Jarron looked at him, "You can have a room."

Eldar shook his head, "If my father is laying on a floor dead somewhere, I have no reason to be comfortable until his body is recovered."

Charlemagne slid in behind him. He got a few hours of sleep in her arms even in the noisy room.

---

Vexxor opened his undead eyes for the first and last time as he would never require sleep again. He went to reach into his bag of holding to retrieve his spellbook. He found it would not open. His other relics were inaccessible being in that bag in a shrunken form.

It was a draconic version of the bag to contain everything and shielded it from being torn. They were extremely heavy regardless as even empty the bag weighed close to 200 pounds. It kept the Dragons from tracking those relics until he was secure.

He pulled the dagger from the transfer device Relic he used for his transformation and realized he could not store it either. A stolen present from the Dwarven Princess' bedroom the night he shared her bed with her and the Dwarven Prince. He found little joy in fucking her with his cock.

She was too stretched out from her husband's efforts. She did get off on him fucking her with both of his fists in the same hole at the same time, both of them. Dwarven male girth. She had a beard but that only made her more attractive as he did not care for the weaker sex.

Her husband stretched out his wife with that fat cock of his and Vexxor received greater pleasure in getting fucked in the nether-hole by him than from her. He had been in the service of Lord Barrimus on that mission.

As he had recruited them into the dead dragons' cause on his behalf. Now sex was no longer desired, feasible, or a concern in his undead life. That went with his former Elven lover Ambassador Franci'nian Goldeagle, the Elf he used to get what he wanted from forbidden Elven Necromancy magic. Those books, however, were in his quarters.

Vexxor had succeeded in becoming ageless. He tried to use a teleportation circle to leave the vault and found he wasted the spell as it was blocked. He looked around and additional wards, not his own had been added into this place. He did not have the spells prepared to try and bring them down.

All of his wards would have failed with his death. Including those, he had in his quarters. His books and resources were in jeopardy. He could not store the gear for travel, could not secure his phylactery, his transfer relic, and could not change out or study his spells to regain more. He was in a weakened state and would be for days.

He was also trapped now in this Royal Vault built by dwarves and reinforced by Elven and Draconic magic millennia ago during the great Dragon Wars of the 5th age. One of the hidden stashes of artifacts used to be held in this very room. Gear forged for Dragon riders off of the Eternal Forge.

When the War of the 5th Age ended the Dragons took most of those artifacts away but left the human King the vault to hold his kingdom's wealth. Now it was his temporary prison cell. He had one teleportation circle left and one teleport. He was vulnerable until he could get his phylactery hidden and warded and not with his undead body.

---

Eldar awoke and changed a couple of spells around. He looked for and finally met the elven ambassador. Charlemagne knew him. Eldar walked up, "Eldar Silvertree."

The Ambassador looks at him, "You are the one going?!"

Eldar nodded, "You could go by my title Duke Silvertree if you prefer. A lot has changed and you appear to be out of the loop."

He shook his head in disbelief and remembered the announcement before the attack. He then nodded, "Any other big surprises?"

Eldar nodded, "You know one of my wives Charlemagne Silvertree, Duchess. The other is her sister Annette."

He sighed, "Very well, why did you want me to bring you in?"

Eldar nodded, "I have a small group of guards going with me and diplomatic papers. You have a place for us to emerge from. I cannot do that on the street after all. Not without having to fight our allies' Guards to get into the palace.

That and some still blame me for the Underhill Gang which I was cleared of killing them all. Only those who attacked us directly. This Court wizard of the humans was the one likely behind that attack."

He tried to hide his shock but Eldar caught it as he nodded, "Very well, gather around."

Eldar looked at Jarron, "Stay near Lord Regal with the Queen having issues I might be calling you for assistance."

He nodded. They got everyone into a group and they found themselves in a room that would rival the Queen's private bedroom.

Eldar looked at the Ambassador, "Where are we?"

He smiled, "My quarters in the royal palace. You can try and deal with the two guards at the door. They have been most uncooperative so far."

Eldar nodded, walked to the door, and opened it. The two guards were stunned to see him. He walked out and they yelled, "Halt you cannot leave your room!"

Eldar looked at him, "Under whose authority are you acting to block a diplomatic envoy of the Elven Queen? I am also a Duke, so be respectful!"

The guard was taken back, "We did not know an envoy would be showing?"

Eldar smirked, "We have a missing elven diplomat who happens to be my father! You take me to the scene of the battle or where the bodies are being held. NOW!"

The guards looked at him and the group with him who all had weapons at the ready. They knew they were outnumbered 9 to 2 and they were geared for a fight.

He sighed, "Follow me."

They walked down to the main throne room and he could hear the arguing from here. He looked at the doors and the guard went to knock and Eldar pushed them open with a forceful kick to the door to see 4 separate groups of people gathered.

He had not drawn his sword like the rest of his detail. He looked around, "Given the current state of affairs here I will forgo the question of who is in charge here. I am Duke Silvertree, I am on a diplomatic envoy for the Elven Queen as one of the people missing is my father. You can bitch about me being here, honor your treatises, or attack. Either way, I want to see my father or recover his body if he is dead."

The room went eerily quiet, "If you know the location of my father or the dead from this fucking catastrophe then would you find an escort to take us there. While we are waiting, I would like introductions from the 4 leaders here."

One man raised his hand, "Our group are scholars trying to determine who has the authority to rule."

Eldar sighed, "You have your books?"

He nodded, "Yes"

Eldar looked at him and shook his head, "A Kingdom that needs 44,967 pages on the rules of the country with 817,683 major paragraphs would run into this issue. Turn to the last page and fact-check me if you like."

He opened the last page and looked things over and looked back, "You have read this?"

Eldar nodded, "Yes I have, now where is my father."

The scholar he had been speaking with led him off to a small room stacked with hundreds of dead bodies. His father was at the top of the pile. He looked to his men, "Please pull my father from this tangled mess of bodies. Any other elves here?"

He shook his head, "The ambassador fled when the first spells went off. He was right in front of me as I fled the room."

Eldar looked at his guards, "Take him to the Ambassador's quarters."

He walked back with the scholar and the scholar looked at Eldar, "Do you know the details of that document?"
