Chapter 35 The Challenges of Home

Eldar saw the Duke, his wife, and children waiting for them. He guided the Queen toward the Duke. "Your Majesty, Duke Walder and his wife Elise. She is expecting twins."

Elise looked at Eldar and the Queen looked at Eldar. Then they both smiled at him. She had the red book in her hand and tried to hand it back. The Queen noticed it and blushed a bit. Eldar looked at Elise, "That book was a gift. Even the Queen has a copy. I requested 30 copies of the original which had to be translated from a foreign human language. She has the best scribes in the Kingdom for that kind of work. There are a lot more pages for you to explore."

She smiled and put it away. The Duke looked at him, "To be blunt, the best sex I have had in years."

They heard giggling because he blurted this out in front of Queen Goldeagle and his children. Queen Goldeagle laughed, "He does have that effect on people, he has given that book and another in gray to several nobles in different lands when I have asked him to travel. They all found both books to be enlightening for different reasons."

Rachel held up the gray book. The Queen pointed, "That would be the other book."

The Duke looked to see what his daughter was holding up, "I hope it is not as illustrated as this book!"

Eldar laughed, "No. Hers deals with an order bound in honor to the protection of all of the people in the world."

She nodded and walked over. She showed her father the title page and the first page. He looked at Eldar, "Where did you get this book?"

Eldar looked at him, "It was my mother's. I recovered it recently in the neighboring village. I had more copies created to help inspire my men as to why we are doing the kind of work I outlined."

Duke Walder looked at Eldar, "They operated behind the scenes, not in the open."

Eldar nodded, "Sometimes the best places to hide are in plain sight."

Eldar smiled as he now knew Duke Walder knew of the Knights. It also confirmed to Duke Walder that Eldar was a person of honor. "We take in a lot of people with a little talent and train them to be excellent soldiers for good. No matter where their future lies."

The Duke smiled at his subtle reference, "I am glad to see the good work you are doing. I was thinking my second eldest son, Gabriel, and my daughters should visit you. The Gray Blades might be right up his alley."

Eldar nodded, "We can see what we can mold from the skills he already has. If that is what Gabriel wishes. My officers will evaluate to find out the best placement for him."

Gabriel looked at his father in a bit of shock and his father showed him the book.

Gabriel turned around quickly, "I would love to come and see your operation and be the chaperone for my younger sisters. I know you have an interest in marrying them."

Eldar nodded, "We just need to confirm love and have them both agree. I can send word to the Princess if that occurs while we are away. I have a communication crystal for her. I am destined to only marry sisters. We can arrange transportation via teleport for you and your remaining children if this occurs on the 12th. The Princess might want to join you even. I have over 800 troops guarding the area and it is remote.

I will pass that along to her before I leave." He saw the youngest son, Charles, smile at that statement. "If you are ready to leave, we will be packed and ready to go shortly."

The three rushed off. The Duke looked at Eldar, "Some of your actions make a lot more sense now."

Eldar smiled, "If you say so, Duke Walder."

Duke Walder chuckled. They headed up front and Eldar whispered to the Queen, "Something tells me he is a former Knight, Your Majesty."

She looked at Eldar and whispered, "Because he did not read the book! He knew the story!"

Eldar nodded. "As soon as he showed his son what the book was about, he was eager to come. His father had told him the story."

She nodded. They got up to the Princess. The Queen spoke first and said her goodbyes and waited for Eldar.

Eldar looked at her, "If I contact you to let you know there will be a wedding for Duke Walder's twin daughters on the night of the 12th, would you please contact them immediately so we arrange transportation?

If for some reason you would like to travel with them I have over 800 men guarding my duchy. An hour after a sword ceremony where we will activate 3 more Moon Blades there will be a mass wedding occurring.

What is special is the Goddess, The Lady of Dreams, will be performing the marriages. Once in a lifetime opportunity. Think about it as the Duke, his wife, and his SONS will be going if this occurs, Princess"

Princess Thornlord nodded to him with a bit of a smile, "I will think on this and wait to hear if it will happen."

Eldar smiled, "Until we speak again, Princess. Be well, be happy, be safe, and be the ruler your people need."

She smiled at Eldar as he left. They got to their room and put the few items they needed to pack into their bags. Eldar stepped back into the hall and looked at Fireball, "Use a scroll and take the team back to the village, let my house guests know we are reclaiming all the rooms in our house for the next several days, including the living room. We will have guests."

Fireball nodded, "You going to House Silvertree first?"

Eldar nodded. "Got to get the horses and check on a tree. Maybe pick up a couple more guests."

They headed over to the Queen, "If you could get the request sent over to the Building office, I will go directly from House Silvertree to meet your messenger or I could just call you on the crystal, Your Majesty."

She smiled, "Just use the crystal. It will be faster."

The three of them showed up with a small bag each. Probably bags of holding. He looked at them, "Gather around. The first stop is House Silvertree." They arrived and it was just before the mid-day meal.

He looked at the ladies, "My wives follow me."

He looked at the three of them, "Do you have armor and weapons with you?"

They all nodded, "Let us go to the stables, Charlemagne and Annette can you find them some house Silvertree riding horses. Then take them into the main house and have them ready to travel and have a mid-day meal put together for all of us plus 2 more. I am going to go see about collecting our other guests. I will need 2 more house horses for them. Get the stable boy to help out."

He got T'suras saddled and mounted up. He grabbed the reins of the first 2 house horses and rode out to the Building department. He tied off the 2 horses to T'suras and headed into the building past the guy at the front desk.

He yelled, "Excuse me."

Eldar cut him off, "I know where I am going and I am in a hurry. You know how I get when I am in a hurry."

He groaned, "Oh dear. Can you at least tell me where you are going?"

Eldar yelled back, "Plans."

Eldar heard him groan again as Eldar walked around the corner and entered the plans department.

He saw Staria Crescent Moon at her desk and walked up to her, "What are you doing for the next week?"

She looked at him, "Working."

Eldar smiled, "Great. Grab your things."

He walked over to her boss, "Staria Crescent Moon provided several plans for the town I am building. I am Duke Eldar Silvertree. She will be gone and paid for her time away as she reviews the actual construction of these buildings. Including a couple of unique ones."

He started to turn mad and Eldar brought his hand up and pulled out a crystal. "Your Majesty, I am at the planning department. I just informed Staria Crescent Moon's Boss of her plans and that she is to be paid for the next week."

The Queen responded, "Thank you Duke Silvertree, let him know if he has any issues with following your request he can come and visit me in the palace. I am sure there is another management slot dealing with the sewer systems someplace in the city."

Eldar looked at the man, "Any questions for the Queen?" He shook his head. "It appears he got your message loud and clear, Your Majesty."

She fired back, "Good I am getting tired of having to replace people over there. Safe trip Eldar."

The crystal went quiet. Eldar looked at Staria, "You ready? I have horses out front." She got up and followed him out. She looked at him, "You are a Duke now!"

Eldar nodded, "I also buried my father earlier this week. It has been a week with mixed emotions."

Staria nodded, "I heard about your father."

Eldar cut her off, "Victria Silvertree told you. Also, what I did for her."

She laughed, "Yes!"

Eldar smiled, "She also told me you wanted to jump over your desk and mount me after what I did to your last boss."

Eldar saw her turning red. She looked at him, "I do not believe she told you that."

Eldar looked at her, "Because it is a lie or the truth?"

She just turned red and he undid the two horses and handed her the reins to the other once she was up. He got on T'suras, "Now we need your sister."

She looked at him, "Is this about the evening meal invitation?"

Eldar nodded, "Yes, but we are starting earlier and going longer. Just like good sex."

She laughed, "So where have you been?"

Eldar sighed, "Yesterday and today in the human Kingdom dealing with a lich and the funeral for the King. I kept the government from collapsing into chaos the day my father died. Someone tried to pull a coup and I helped them deal with the laws. As all of the knowledgeable scholars who knew the document for their laws were dead."

She looked at Eldar, "How did you help?"

Eldar smiled, "I had the document memorized. In fact, every book I have read I have memorized. My title is not only elven but also human and dwarven. So as a Duke I was the only one there who had a legitimate voice. The coup members were executed following human law.

The right for the crown to pass is in limbo and I had to amend their law. To allow the Princess with 3 advisers who were humans and experts in their field to run the country until she is of age to rule in 2 years."

She pulled up to a small house, "This is where we live nothing the size of House Silvertree."

Eldar sighed, "I did not step foot in House Silvertree until the day I claimed head of the household status due to the Moon Blade I now carry. I was the impure bastard that they wanted to forget about. In the end, I disowned over half of them after the second assassination attempt. Which also had the King and Queen targeted."

They walked into her small house and she found her sister and he heard her, "He is here and he is now a DUKE!" Eldar assumed she was nodding. "Gods, you said a week?"

Eldar yelled up, "You only need a couple days' worth of clothes. Also, any weapons and armor you might want to carry as we will be leaving the city after the mid-day meal."

She whispered, "Shit he can hear us."

Eldar laughed, "Yes, I can hear you. I have heightened senses. If I can hear two of my officers fucking in a barn in the new village from where I am living. You can bet I can hear everything you are doing. You do not need to clean up, not on my account. We do have lunch waiting for us. Yes, I can hear the broom."

He heard giggling and they came down a minute later with a couple of days' worth of clothes and a wand. They each had their spellbooks.

He looked at them, "If you are wanting to expand your spellbooks let me know." He opened up his bag and pulled out the books with 8th-tier spells. "I have a whole library in here. I have books with 9th-tier spells in them now. Waiting on my temporary home to get built."

Staria looked at Eldar, "The Inn?"

Eldar nodded, "It is under construction. Across the way at a diagonal is where the garrison with Keep is being built."

Staria gasped, "You're building a Keep?"

Eldar shook his head, "The dwarves are building it using human designs. How much do you 2 believe in the gods?"

They laughed and Astria replied, "A lot why?"

Eldar looked at Staria, "The first time I met you I knew I would marry you someday. Which was when the name Astria popped into my head. I figured that would occur after my wives passed on. Some things have changed. We get to the house. I will let my wives take you aside and explain it to you. But if we can find love then I will be marrying 4 sisters very soon."

They looked at him and Staria yelled, "Four? Who are the other two?"

Eldar smiled, "Twin daughters of a human Duke with very large breasts. My visions took me to them while I was traveling. They are at the Estate as well with an older brother. Would you like some vision stuff that nobody knows about you?"

Astria rode forward a bit, "Yes."

Eldar looked at her, "You have been in love with your elder sister for years. You became lovers after you became adults. You still have your hymen intact because you do not want to ruin your chances of ever getting married. Staria had a lover who died in a caravan escort mission about the time I left the academy. They attacked 3 caravans.

They destroyed the other 2, I helped to prevent the third. He was a Moon Elf of mixed blood like me. Something that attracted Staria to me. Your sister has been looking after you since your parents died. I do not need to tell you how they died as you know the true story already.

The cover story did not fly well in the larger community and your house fell further out of favor. Most of your family has died off. In fact, you 2 are the last. No males to carry on your family name. Once you are married House Crescent Moon becomes a footnote in elven history. Like so many great houses. Staria has been head over heels for me ever since we met.

Astria first glimpsed me at one of the tournaments about ten and a half years ago. My second consecutive win. You were drooling over me back then. Then you saw the whole thing at the Academy and you thought about going to the Gray Blades but with your love of your sister, you abandoned that idea."

Eldar looked at her, "How did I do?" She nodded and he continued. "If we, a collective we. That includes my wives and the other two sisters can love each other then there could be a big marriage in the very near future. Before you say anything on that front we are here."

He dismounted and tied the two horses off to T'suras.

He walked back to the garden, "About 3-feet, that tree is growing fast. It was planted 2 days ago at my father's funeral. His ashes are in the hole we planted the tree in."

They walked over to the main house dining room; he grabbed a plate of food. "Staria, Astria, this is Rachel and Dorothy. Then my wives Charlemagne and Annette."

He looked at his wives. "I gave them the 10-gold piece tour of visions. I figured you could cover the visit with the Lady of Dreams and your experiment last night."

Eldar picked us his plate of food to leave them, "Ladies, I will be out with my horse when you are ready to go. You, recruit Gabriel, follow me."

He took him out of there, "Is your gear magical?" He shook his head. He took him into the next wing. He walked through and looked at each door and found armor. "You're a fighter. Like big two-handed weapons." He nodded. "Let us start in here."

He walked into the weapon room which was still fairly stacked full of gear and Gabriel's eyes went wide. He walked down and found a barrel at the end with the really big swords.

They were tagged. He pulled one out with the sheath and handed it to him, "Check that out. The command word is 'Tratic.' It is dwarven for acid." He said it and the blade of the sword was covered in acid. Thankfully it did not drip. He pulled a couple of long swords for the ladies.

He looked at Gabriel, "Say it again and then sheath it." Eldar looked at him, "You break that sword and you are not worthy of carrying a blade. That is adamantine. You have any magical gear besides that bag?"

He shook his head. Eldar looked at him, "Jewelry next, then armor. You probably like the heavy stuff too?"

He nodded, "Tranosa is going to love you, he is our bastard sword user and one of our Captains."

He walked in and looked at the tags and pulled a couple of rings and amulets and stuck them in his bag for his wives. He found Gabriel a resistance and protection from acid rings.

He looked at him, "This ring is in case you hit yourself with your sword. It will protect you from the acid. This one is a resistance ring. Not high but not the lowest tier."

He grabbed 4 more protection rings, a ring of shielding, and a ring of shooting stars.

He stuck those into his bag and they headed over to the magic department. He pulled a couple of quarterstaves. Headed over to the armor department. He found three sets of bracers and he handed him one set, "Put those on. Sleeping at night while on patrol."

We walk down going table after table of heavy armor. He looked for something in the middle and found a black set that did look nice with the sword. He looked at him "You better be as strong as you look cause that is some heavy armor. Do your sisters use heavy armor?"

He nodded. He looked through and found two sets that were nearly identical except for the color on one of the upper ridges. He pulled those out and handed them to him, "They have the same protection, just a slight color variation." He went back over to weapons and he found a nice light crossbow with a force enchantment on it. "Rachal use a bow at all?"

Gabriel shook his head, "Throwing daggers."

Eldar nodded. He found her one that was returning but otherwise not outstanding. They headed back to the main house and he walked into the room with the ladies.

"Bracers, rings, armor, swords, throwing dagger returning, nice light crossbow with bolts. Last but not least two magical quarterstaves that are tagged at the top. Two sets of bracers. Wands are fine but we are going into an area that could become hostile at some point. I will take him to my office and the rest of you get changed."

He walked down to his wives, "Two feather falling rings. You got twenty minutes. Help them out with getting into travel clothes and that armor. I was told they like heavy armor."

He got him dressed in about 10 minutes flat and he could hear the ladies laughing. He knew they were getting along. About 30 minutes later and the 6 of them emerge. He looked at Charlemagne and Annette, "Nice chat?" The 6 of them laughed.

Eldar looked at them, "Remember my hearing ladies."

Everyone got up on their horses and Rachel looked at him, "What about your hearing?"
