Interesting story...I hope that
future chapters are in the works;
I liked this, keep it up, G.
Okay, he says "..."But there hasn't been a Merlin in hundreds of years," I pointed out. ..."
When he (and we) still doesn't (don't) know wtf a "Merlin" is in this context. Is it a male spellcaster who isn't driven mad by magic? It sounds like it based on the conversation Cally and Aria had, but that's just guessing from context. Why would he say that, after Aria said "you're not one of the bad ones" if he doesn't know that not being a "bad one" means he *must be* "a Merlin"? This is never explained. He demonstrates knowledge with no explanation of where that knowledge came from. I guess it's a minor detail, relatively speaking, but it bugged me.
The Roanoke colony was in (what is now called) Dare County, North Carolina. Not Virginia. Roanoke Virginia has nothing whatsoever to do with the historical Roanoke colony (from North Carolina) that disappeared, other than its name. Google is your friend, when you're building a universe, and a fictional history, based on actual historical events. Also, here it's been "over four hundred years" since the last Merlin...but in the next chapter it's three hundred. Continuity matters. And FWIW, if the disappearance of the Roanoke colony is what caused all covens to turn into serial killers (did they also mass-slaughter infants who may have inherited magical talent? I wonder.) then four hundred years is probably about right. The Roanoke colony disappeared around 1590.
Okay so you’ve used Wizards, Druids, and Merlins to describe male magic users but now they are all called Warlocks. Also the MC due to their religious beliefs would call themselves a seiðmenn, remember their are more types of practitioners then found in common litRPGs, so please find some fun names and make it feel more alive…also don’t use Merlin as that is a known fictional character and not a rank or type of caster as we use in modern fantasy. Please, google is your friend, spend some time building your world bible and find some fun names and better utilize the practices of magic in the world to flush your story out, because it’s good but these are really distracting
Superhero stuff seems a little extra but the urban fantasy is solid. Really enjoying.
