So I'm rereading this story while waiting for the next chapter in Talla's Falling Temple and just have to ask what is "Severe Service" ?

I haven't read any further than chapter 6, but service is having sex. Severe sex would be something like gang rape. Or possibly some one or thing much larger than usual.

Yeah, that was the issue I was faced with.

Would the Temple really do that to its women? Would they use it as a punishment?

Given the choice, I would probably write that bit out of the story if I ever go over it again and want to publish it.
