And where does the angry Bill Braden fit? Did he feel that she was in love with the PI? Oh well, lots of fun. Thanks!
Love the way the story came together. and the way everyone got what they started for but came up Short.

Thank you for discovering; updating; and posting a previously unpublished Dashiell Hammett story. Pity that Bogart and Astor or Powell and Loy are not available for the feature version. How about Matt Damon and Liv Tyler?
Again a fiver, mate, after all you deserve it.
Elementary, Watson.
Did I tell that for effectively electrocuting a person, you need basic knowledge of Electrical Engineering? And Hector had repaired a DG set in Iraq. Tell you one thing, DG is 90% Mechanical, and the rest 10% don't fail normally. But that is altogether another matter for another day.
Good story.
Okay, I will admit it: I rated part 1 four stars. I did, however, wait until I read this chapter to decide on four or five stars for part 2, and you earned the extra star for both chapters (or, well, there were multiple chapters in each part, but you get what I'm saying) with this one! I never expected that the investigator would be able to live without an unfulfilling ending, but you pulled it off! I especially liked the exchange from a year later, with both knowing fully what the other was. I suspect that she didn't truly love him until she realized how he had played her, but then I suppose there's no telling.
Again, great story all the way through!

That worked beautifully -
I was well convinced she did not kill anyone and the coworker was the obvious next choice you gave us but that was a bit too easy -
hector was the right one fr the right reason - excellent
That she wasn't the killer? She seemed to be able to make men believe anything she said.
While I understand his thinking that no matter what they may say at the beginning, she would never completely get over his being her husband's killer.
And I also understand his belief that she would eventually cheat on him as she did with Hector.
But I'm a happy ending kind of a person, and hoped that it could end with them getting together.
Good story, nonetheless.
The only person deserves to die in this story is Martha!
Great story- riveting narration and character development. likegoodwine is One if the best authors on Literotica.
