Perhaps you can make Mason's family remember him again. Or maybe make him super smart.

The whole first page was about Mason being set up as the protagonist, then all of a sudden he becomes a secondary character and Monica is now the protagonist and Mason is like her sidekick or dupe. Why did I spend the time getting to know Mason on page 1 if by the end of this chapter he would not be the one in control, the one driving the story?
