Great story? really like your writing style. This had a western theme but as one commenter said did you get the idea from the Kenny Rogers song or others. THANKS for the short story

The story was an amalgamation of a lot of Western influences, like The Rifleman, Shane, a couple of John Wayne flicks, and the Kenny Rogers song.
