...an excellent piece of work, Pixie. I did enjoy Merlin's enigmatic comments. Did he believe in them or did he make them up as he went along to fool others into thinking him wiser than he was? And once again you leave me wondering how different a place the world might have been had women been more respected in ancient times. I know much of the attitude to women came from the Old Testament but that was written in the main by old men who were bigoted and passed their bigotry to their descendants. Once more, I am so much enjoying this story.

(This is not really relevant to your story but is a point of interest, I think. The present day Kirill, head of the Russian Orthodox Church, is a former KGB agent. I wonder which God he truly worships: the God of the Tabernacle or the evil one presiding over the Kremlin?)

Smiles at the thought of seeing one so thankful for you intervening on her behalf, on all fours while you adjust your own harness and phallic symbol, well it is only something some of us girls can appreciate.

The foundation Pixiehoff laid in previous chapters allowed for the easy transitions from one consequential event to the next in this chapter. I was especially impressed by the opening, where Carwen delivered some unvarnished truths for Merlin to deal with. The nugget about men protecting weaker individuals from other men was a perfect rebuttal to the red pilled proponents of male victimhood. The subsequent demonstration of women's ability to master and "use tools", via Carwen's sword training and barroom heroics, was a nice juxtaposition to the "male savior" trope.. - Bella's reward for Carwen's actions was classically erotic. And Carwen took full advantage. The subtle mesaaging was not lost on me. Meanwhile, Hypatia remains somewhat of an enigma as the frisson between her and Carwen grows.. Carmen's parlay with Kirill was productive, but the agreemnet was obviously tenuous. I am filled with anticipation and trepidation over the pending pleasures and perils awaiting our heroines in upcoming chapters. 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿

I can't help thinking of the contrast between what Carwen is doing for Bella as she is attacked by Roman soldiers and what Jesus' disciples did in a comparable situation. First they slept on the job, then one of them (I think his name was Pete or something) put up a feeble fight, and finally they all fled like cowards.

These are the rocks upon which the church is built. Women like Carwen and Hypatia find themselves between a rock (the Roman Catholic church) and a hard place (the Orthodox Church). The only way to elevate their position and gain ground is to humble themselves (as JC himself would have recommended).

As for Kirill, the Egyptian leader of the Eastern church, he seems like a spiritual ancestor of both Putin and Al Sisi to me: all 3 of them make a habit of clinging to power at any cost while claiming to do it for the greater good.

I would like to say fuck them, but that would be completely besides the point. Better listen to Bella who says "fuck me" to a brave woman who deserves this privilege and joy.
