The title of my comment says it all.

So many declarative sentences. Four sentences in a row all starting with the word “I.” No real description of emotions. No real tension.

You have a basic story that has promise but the execution reads like a police report. I urge you to go into a private room, read your stories out loud and record them. Then wait a few days and listen to them. I think that you would agree that they need some work to liven them up.

*sigh* A solitaire is a single gem. That's what solitaire means, single. If it's surrounded by other stones, it's not a solitaire. Other than that, I had high hopes after the first page but the whole thing was moved in a rather clinical (pun intended) fashion to its uneventful conclusion. Even the psycho ex came round in a single paragraph. 3/5.
