The Lizard Wars

"You've still not told me what Truis Rigis means in English Ariel." I said to him.

"The best translation would be, the Sacrificial Wife I guess." He said.

"So then Truis Garusi, would than mean the Sacrificial Best Man or, is it Husband right?" I said still fuming a little.

"It's Husband." He said awkwardly as he blushed even more.

I got up from the couch and went to the dining room table to see what was there. I was surprisingly very hungry. There were foods from both our worlds. In the middle of the table there were two bottles that looked like wine bottles. One was labeled Truis Rigis and the other was labeled Truis Garusi.

"Those bottles look like wine. Are they?" I asked Ariel.

"Yes they are. The one labeled Truis Rigis is for you and the other is for me. You see the females of my people also have a fluid in there saliva that is an aphrodisiac that affects men from both of our worlds like the males of my people affect females of both worlds." He said blushing even more than before. "But you and I don't have to drink it."

I looked at the bottles and thought about the taste that was still lingering in my mouth and seemingly becoming stronger. I picked up the bottle for me and poured some into the wine glass, than I picked up his bottle and poured some into his glass. I gave him his glass and said, "A toast to Anna and Ty on their marriage."

He nervously picked up his glass and drank as I did mine. Within 15 seconds I could tell the effect it had on him by the very large bulge in his pants. Which only aroused me more than I had been earlier.

"Now I want the kiss you were supposed to give me at the wedding." I said as I put my arms around his neck.

We never made it to the bed or the couch. We had sex only three feet from the dining room table most of that night only going to the bed room early in the morning to continue what we had started down stairs in front of the table. For the next five days it was nothing but sex, food and sleep over and over again. It was Saturday morning that the guards left but we stayed in the house usually naked and continuing with what we had been doing for the previous five days. Monday it was hard for both of us to get up and go back to work. We held hands as we walked to work not thinking about who might see us. As we got close to the front door we saw Anna and Ty running to the door to go to work as they, like us, were about 30 minutes late. Anna saw us as she was about to close the door and held it open for us. Ariel and I realizing we were both holding hands released our hands and went inside I, going to my office and Ariel to his.

There was a knock on my door and my heart gave a jump, I was hoping it was Ariel. It was Anna. I told her to come in. She sat in the chair in front of my desk.

"From what I saw this morning and the look on your face Tina I would say you've made up your mind about Ariel, the commander I mean, haven't you?" She said with a very big smile on her face.

"Yes I have Anna. I more than like him. I love him. I'd like to thank you for making me your Truis Regis and Ty for making him your Truis Garusi I might never have been able to make up my mind otherwise." I told her with an equally large smile.

"Your very welcome Tina," she said, "Sometimes it's your friends who have to push things along when they see it should be pushed."   The Lizard Wars

Chapter 4

Anna and Ty took over the operations at what had been Paul Foster's farm, that was given to me because of his will. It was far enough away from everyone so no one ever found out about Anna's condition. No one to my surprise even asked about her. I guess because she was just one of many teenagers in town and people had other things to think about then one teenager.

With our third crop we had exceeded what would have been 20 years of normal production. This excess made it possible for us to trade with other cities and towns for things we needed. It also helped to spread the technology of the fertilizer to these places, so that they too could produce crops like us.

Ariel now lived with me now and we were happy together. No one in town found out we were together or they didn't care, I was never too sure which. Part of it might have been that there was no one who lived around me after the people were moved by Ariel shortly after he arrived in town. Since I lived almost in the restricted area it may have help keep our secret. On the weekends Anna and Ty would come to my house for dinner or we would go to their home for dinner.

Anna was five months along in her Pregnancy when she started to show. Ariel had gotten a lizard posted to his command so she would have a doctor there who wouldn't be telling the town's people about her. Doctor Saldar was his name. An older man with very good English and a good sense of humor both Anna and I liked him. He told us the she was fine and it looked like she was going to have twins but he was going to get some equipment just to make sure his ears weren't just failing him. Anna asked me not to tell anyone yet as she felt Ty was more nervous about her pregnancy then she or her mother. As she said, "You know how first time fathers can be."

The next month I saw Alice near the town hall I called to her but she either didn't hear me or she didn't want to hear as she quickly disappeared around the corner. Ariel and I had to go to a new building the town was going to use to store some of the canned food we had packed as we were running out of storage space. Down the street I again saw Alice with two other women talking to a lizard soldier. They all went around the corner towards the restricted area as far as I could tell from my view. This was strange as all the other town's people usually stayed about two or more blocks away from the restricted area.

The next day since I had felt a little funny about seeing Alice there. I started to check on what was Alice's job in town as maybe she was there because of it. I couldn't find her name on any work list except for when she went to the POW camp. I was going to ask Ariel about it, but I decided against it. I thought I should talk to Alice first. I called her phone and was informed that this number was disconnected. I checked for a phone number in my files and found she was listed under a different number and street address. The name at that address was Mrs. Sally Anderson, Alice's mother-in-law, I thought she hated her and now she was living with her. I called the number on and off all day but there was no answer. The next day Saturday Ariel had to inspect his troops so I decided to go there myself.

I rang the bell on the door and waited.

"Who's there?" Came a scream from inside.

"It's Mrs. Foster." I said.

The door swung open and Alice's mother-in-law was standing there in a dirty bathrobe and a strong smell of stale beer coming from the house.

"Oh, it's you Mrs. Foster. You're a friend of Alice's aren't you?" she said.

"I was a friend of Alice's but I haven't seen her in a long time and I needed to talk to her. This was the address and phone number listed for her." I said not wanting to give any more information than that.

"HERE! I through that SLUT and her two WHORE friends out of here months ago." She screamed at me.

"Mrs. Anderson as you know I'm the commander's executive secretary and in charge of work details for the town. I saw Alice the other day but she was to far away to talk to. So I checked the work details records and I couldn't find out where she works, I was hoping to find out from her so I could correct my records." I lied to her.

"Mrs. Foster, everyone in town knows how there watching you like a hawk but people like Alice will only get you in trouble by associating with them. You've got enough problems with the lizards, don't bring yourself anymore." She said as she started to close the door.

"Mrs. Anderson I still need to know where I can find her."

"You'll find her somewhere around 9th street near the restricted area with her other whore friends." She said and closed the door.

I when home wondering if Mrs. Anderson just hated Alice so much she would talk about her like that just to hurt her or something else? Ariel came home looking worried.

"Tina I need you to make a new curfew pass up on the computer here and don't link it to the office computers. It has to be completely different than the old one and have on it a note saying other passes dated before tomorrow's date are invalid." I have to go to the office today to check something. I'll be back as soon as I can." He said.

Ariel was very quiet when he came home he just looked at the new curfew cards on the computer and told me they were very good. I asked him what it was all about and why he was so worried.

"I'll tell and show you tomorrow at the office." He said and we went to bed.

We walked to the office in quiet Ariel looking at the ground with a sad face most of the way. When we got there Corporal Lem who had taken Ty's place in the office was hard at work. Another of one of Ariel soldiers was there trying to replace Anna, he was number ten in the line of replacements who was trying.

"Mrs. Foster come into my office in about ten minutes and I'll show you that new report." He said covering the fact he would call me Tina in private.

"Yes Sir."

I waited the ten minutes and went to Ariel's office. We always kept things at the office in a business manner so I know he wants to show me what was bothering him.

"Tina do you know Alice Anderson?" He asked.

His question surprised me since I'd just been checking on her. "Yes I do as a matter of fact I've been trying to find out what job she's doing in town. I saw her the other day when we went to check on that new storage building." I answered telling all I knew up to that point.

"At the new warehouse?" He asked.

"Yes. She was down the street with two other women and one of your soldiers. I saw them go around the corner. When I got back to the office I checked on what her job in town was because it seemed odd for her to be there. I couldn't find her on any job except for the first POW trip." I explained, "What may I ask is going on here?"

"When I had my inspection the other day one man was late getting there. He was also very drunk on top of that. When I question him he told me he got drunk at the Zaraka ochi on 9th street. A Zaraka ochi translates in English to a whore house. I didn't even know there was one there. It's like all armies yours or ours weather in occupied areas or not they popup. After more questions he said his Zaraka name was Alice Anderson. He didn't know who the other women were." He said, "where you good friends?"

"Up until the time both her and I received word of our husband's death I would say yes. After that she never called or came to my house. Not until after she went to the POW camp did I see her when she brought the report of the trip to my house on the Saturday after they had returned. Since than I haven't heard from her but I have seen her twice. Once down the street from here and the other day at the warehouse, but I haven't talked to her since that Saturday." I told him.

"I'm glad to hear that. Sunday a Mrs. Sally Anderson came here to tell me you had asked about Alice. I think she got afraid you might be a spy for me, and she decided it was better to report you than be reported." He said with a little smile. "I wanted you to know that before you hear stories about me complaining about you as a troublemaker. It was the only thing I could think of to silent's her since I told her if you were involved in any action against my people you would pay with your life and she would be declared a hero to my people in front of the town."

I was about to both answer and ask some questions when his phone rang. He told me to stay seated and talk to someone on the phone in his language. He started to laugh and then finished his call.

"That was Top Sergeant Grizae. He is the man in charge of Mrs. Sally Anderson's work group and he's very friendly to all the people in the group. He helped me this morning after talking to Private Ty Shia to make sure I could be trusted me being an officer. He knew Ty was my nephew. He told Mrs. Anderson he'd heard about some people in town were real mad about hearing she was a traitor and they were going to fix her. She got so scared she bribed him to get her out of town. Since I have a friend in a town about 200 miles from here he will look the other way an issue a pass in his town." He was quite happy with himself.

"You're still trying to save me, aren't you?" I said.

"Yes I am. Even more now than before, because I love you Tina foster, I truly love you." His eyes showed that to be true.

I got up and went to his side of the desk and gave him a very passionate kiss and he returned this with a French Kiss, lizard style. I felt like ripping off his clothes, but knew this was the wrong place and time. So I returned to my seat before things got out of hand.

"Is it true about Alice? I asked.

"You mean is she a Zaraka or what you would call a whore. So far we have had 25 men identify her as one of the women at the place. We're checking some more. The problem is in our world it is not illegal to be a Zaraka, a whore. Even in one of your states it's legal and in some other countries of your world it is sometimes legal or ignored. I can't shut them down and the town police force of two, who are women, don't have the force to stop it either. One man told me that the younger policewoman knows about it but said to him she couldn't really stop it. I don't know if this is true or not but how am I suppose to ask her without offending her. That might cause more problems than we have now. I also found out that at least two or more dozen teenagers and 20 plus women are having affairs with some of my soldiers. Just like Anna and Ty were. How could I stop others, if they found out about them, well you can guess that the results might be." He said being at a loss at what to do.

"Then you think there's nothing we can do about it?" I asked him.

"We're damned if we do and damned if we don't. Your world has a saying that's just like my people do. It's the oldest profession in the world. Every place you try to stop it there someone or some criminal organization that will keep it going. I'm just hoping it won't grow." He said.

"That kind of business, prostitution, is a money business so how are they being paid?" I asked.

"It would have to be extra supplies, food or other things of some value. We'll have to check for what's missing. Then we can charge someone with a crime." He said knowing that some of his own men could get into trouble.

"You told me once that your people just wanted to stay on our planet just long enough to grow food for your journey in space. Is that still the plan or has it been changed?" I asked.

"It is still the same plan. If we stay to long your people will sooner or later either copy our weapons or come up with new weapons that would hurt us. We've lost too many people in wars. We want a world of our own, maybe then after some time has passed our new world and yours might become friends and even allies." He told me.

"How long before your people have enough food?" I inquired.

"At the rate we're going right here in this town and now some other towns, about one more year or even less." He told me.

"In that case maybe we should try to ignore it and hope it works out." I said fully understanding the possibilities of the problems it could also cause.

"I don't like it but what else can we do." He said looking sad and kind of lost.

Doctor Saldar had two more doctors come into our town, one looked almost human. His skin was the same flesh color as ours and like Princess Yazear very few scales showed. He at first had them examine humans who were ill to get people use to the idea of being seen by a lizard doctor. They both were good doctors and seemed to even be able to cure the common cold and flu. Within two months almost all of the people in town were glad they were there. Doctor Saldar told me both were also very good baby doctors as he couldn't remember what we called that type of doctor. I figured that with as many women as Ariel said were sexually involved with his troops it was a good idea.

Women who were known to be having sex with soldiers were told that they could become pregnant because our DNA and their DNA were a perfect match. Most confessed to having sex with a soldier and most said they would likely continue because they loved that person. With the 85% female population, loneliness was the most likely cause Doctor Saldar said and he hoped they wouldn't get hurt in the end. Doctor Saldar however seemed to only really have one person he took care of, Anna.

With all the people in town the two other doctors were soon working 12 to 16 hours a day, so I asked Ariel why Doctor Saldar was only seeing Anna and not helping the other doctors.

"Well there are several reasons for that, Tina." Ariel said, "First Doctor Saldar is seventy-five years old. He retired about ten years ago. But mostly he is Ty's Grandfather and a very good doctor. I think he wants to make sure he gets to see his Great Grand Children, especially since it's going to be twins."

"So I guess I'll have to go to the warehouses and count everything to see what's missing." I said with a frown to Ariel.

"No, we'll have to go check the warehouses, but I have a feeling it won't be that easy." Ariel replied.

Ariel made a special pass for me which allowed me to even go into the restricted areas, but he advised me to only go there with him. We found some shortages but not enough we thought to be concerned about.

"What about illegal drugs?" I asked him.

"Maybe. No one I questioned however said anything about drugs and I didn't want to give anyone new ideas."

We were near Mrs. Wilson's house after looking at one warehouse and decided to stop by. Mrs. Wilson was sitting on the porch in a rocking chair and an older soldier was sitting in the other rocking chair.

"That's Top Sergeant Grizae sitting with Mrs. Wilson." Ariel told me.

Top Sergeant Grizae stood to attention when he saw Ariel and I coming towards them.

"At ease Top Sergeant Grizae and please sit down again." Ariel told Top Sergeant Grizae.

"Yes Sir." The Top Sergeant said and sat back down.

"Good afternoon commander. Grizae and I where just having some ice tea. Would the two of you like some too?" Mrs. Wilson asked us.

"Yes that would be nice." We said at the same time.

Mrs. Wilson went to the kitchen for some glasses with ice.

"Sergeant I didn't know you knew Mrs. Wilson." Ariel said.

"Mrs. Wilson was in the same work group as Mrs. Anderson. When she disappeared I had to promote the next civilian in line to her position. I'm glad it was Maria, I mean Mrs. Wilson. She's a lot nicer and always sober too, unlike Mrs. Anderson." The Sergeant said in perfect English with a big smile.

"I guess that makes us even on favors then." Ariel jokingly said.

"More than even Sir." The Sergeant said still smiling at us.

Mrs. Wilson returned with the tea. We all sat around the porch table and talked for about an hour. Top Sergeant Grizae stood up and said, "I'm sorry Maria but I have the duty tonight and must leave now. And Good night to you Mrs. Foster and commander." Sergeant Grizae said to us.

"I'll walk with you Sergeant Grizae at least to my office as I have to pick something up before going home." Ariel said.

"I'm going to stay here a little bit longer and talk to Maria." I told Ariel and Grizae, I knew Ariel wanted to talk to Sergeant Grizae alone.

I stayed with Maria for about 45 more minutes. Then I left and headed to the cross street which would take me there to my office one way or home the other way. Ariel was waiting at the corner leaning against a light pole.
