"I understand," she said as she opened the front door. "Thank you for giving us a chance to fix this."

"One chance, Luna. Make it count." With that, I got into my rental car and drove away. The gate guard was waiting, waving as I passed before he closed it behind me. I smiled as I turned back towards Stillwater; I could imagine the conversations going on in that office for the rest of the day.

I made some phone calls as I drove in the general direction of my new home. I talked to my son Anthony, the Alpha of the Baxter Pack in Maine. He was overjoyed at the news that I had found a second-chance mate. "When is the ceremony?"

"I haven't accepted him just yet, and I still have Council business that takes precedence," I told him. "We had a shaky start, and he's still getting his mind right from the loss of his own mate. I'll let you know."

"A Pack in Minnesota," he said. "You couldn't find a mate in Florida, Texas, or Arizona? You know, so Pamela and I have a warm place to stay in the winter?"

I just laughed. "I didn't get a vote in this either. Blame Luna." We talked for another thirty minutes until I pulled into the parking lot on the east side of the Mall of America. I needed to get some clothing until I could return to Maine and sell my house. I spent a few hours buying new outfits to get me through the next few weeks.

As I passed the Lower East Side, I saw the signs for SeaLife. Vicki's enthusiasm about her sharks was contagious; I needed to visit here with them soon. It was so different seeing things through their eyes. Young children hadn't been disappointed, betrayed, or hurt by the world. I chuckled as I thought about what she said about us; Leo was sad, but I was here and made him happy. It was so simple to her.

He made me happy too.

I joined the rush hour traffic and headed south for home.

Still loving it and all the machinations you come up with.

I really enjoyed this story until it became a werewolf template story. I was ready to quit this this story until you saved it by the twist at the end. Please continue creating a new story.

Oops, same as comment. Obviously, I'm not a writer ;)

The installments are a bit short for book prices, but compiled together, the overall story would be something I'd probably pay a few dollars for. The writing is excellent; I love your character-building, they seem realistic, even if they are mostly werewolves.

Thanks, again!

Still loving this story. I am always excited to see another installment posted, even though I'm not a big fan of the average werewolf story. The way Leo treats people, and the way the people with whom he has surrounded himself act lets me relax into the story the same way I would with any other great novel with likeable characters. I don't have to worry about the Alpha character forcing a woman to submit, or some ludicrous plot in which a proud woman enjoys being dominated in some way. I don't so much mind the idea of a pack structure, but when it gives people the opportunity to treat women as forced submissives it grates on my nerves. I'm so happy that the lunas in your story are strong and at least somewhat independent when the plot puts them in a situation where their alpha is acting in a way they wouldn't approve.

BTW, I really like the size of your posts. 6~9 pages is a really satisfying amount of reading to get to do when the story is this involved and when there are as many characters as werewolf stories tend to have. I don't mind the wait between posts when I get to read another large chunk of such a satisfying story.

So, thanks again for posting your story, and I look forward to seeing more!

"It was so different seeing things through their eyes. Young children hadn't been disappointed, betrayed, or hurt by the world." You're a grandparent, I can tell.

Looking forward to more, when you have the time. Thank you for sharing your art with us.
