"Incest"

There really is no such thing as "Incest". It is a man-made concept, doubtless conceived by early priests/chieftains because they saw the poor offspring that often resulted from sex between close kin, and they wanted to reduce such occurrences. So long as partners use birth control methods, however, sex between kin is no different from sex between strangers, except that partners may know each other better. Or not.

No it's different

@ChasB;

Every word we utter is a "man-made concept" - a symbol. Whether that symbol links to something in reality is quite another thing.

However, do you know for certain that e.g. there is no genetic factor (forming our brains) contributing directly to the widespread perception in man's mind that incest is not a behavioural goal, but rather something to avoid, perhaps even disgust?

"So long as partners use birth control methods, however, sex between kin is no different from sex between strangers, except that partners may know each other better". Well, that first part could be true if the two really don't know each other at all, but then the latter part is incorrect. Otherwise, when they do know each other, then there exist something called a psychological relation - and a special kind of relation that is, since it is rooted in genetic closeness and fundamental family structures that carry the whole of our societies. And as sex will always have a relational element to it, then we are here into something somewhat different from other kinds of sexual relation - and the framework of this special psychological reality happens to be what this category is all about.

"Incest II"

As the Anonymous says, every word we utter is a man-made concept - just like "Incest". Most family members aren't all that attracted to one another. They know each other too well, and don't always like everything they see all that much. But sexual attraction is something much more instinctual. Why are girls often attracted to the "bad boys", for example. A girl may know, intellectually, that such guys mean trouble, but they likely ooze sexual lure, and that may overcome brain sense. It can happen within families too, possibly just for a short period until curiosity is satisfied, possibly for a long time. So long as there are no unwanted results, so what?
