Click hereHer voice trailed off, "Tell her I ... tried..."
Narissa's eyes closed as her last breath gently left her.
Cassie wept and tears fell from her eyes onto the still face of the Dark Elf. Sensing a movement at her side she looked up into the blood-red eyes of the Drow, his face was a scarred, bleeding mess but he still grinned and blood spattered across Cassie's face as he sneered, "Don't waste your tears on that pathetic weakling, you'll need them for yourself soon enough."
The young woman's eyes narrowed as a bitterly hot flame of hate blazed through her, and she slammed the knife in her hand into the smirking creature's foot with a blood-curdling scream of fury, "You murdering BASTARD!"
The blade cleaved through the creature's boot and the force of her blow drove it nearly hilt-deep into the floor like a red-hot nail driven by a sledgehammer.
The Drow howled in pain and lifted its blade with a snarl, "Bitch!"
Shalidar's cry of "No!" was loud and desperate as the thing swung its sword and was the last thing Cassie heard as a searing pain plunged her world into darkness.
Can’t lie, I skipped everything before the resolution to the previous cliffhanger. Pretty dumb to leave that there and try to cram in some verbose nonsense in between. One
I've read Lewis and Carrol (*snicker-snack") and I've run and played D&D and other RPG's for 40 odd years. Great fun and I thoroughly recommend it. Im more a Karl Edwards Wagner and R.E. Howard fan myself.
"I require a more vorpal blade I think."
Maybe you know this and this is an Easter egg, but that's not a real word in a world without Lewis Carroll. Double-checking online TIL that it's actually been appropriated by the DnD crowd and given a meaning, but that itself is a kind of joke. Enjoying the heck out of this story.
Oh my! While I lament the loss of the two characters, this just opened up cans of both worms and (future) whoopass. I cannot wait for the story to develop.
Holy shit! Didn't see that coming. Nyx's gunna be devasted and afterwards out for blood. Adair too.
I'm a bit confused where Shalidar is standing. I had the impression that she had reconsidered her alliances after her encounter with the Crone. Cuz if she was still on the side of that evil entity, why would the Crone have let her live?
Speaking of the Crone... Will she regret letting Cassie leave with her broom? Without that broom, Cassie would not have seen thru Shalidar's illusion, and the latter would have left the inn w/o further ado. What a bad stroke of fate.
Looking forward for the next chapter.
