The Dixie Chicks were responding to an actual real life existential threat. Hey, look! I'm a guy, and can sympathize with Alastair's being a doofus and trying to make up for it. I am caught up with this story and don't want to see Sierra hurt. I admire her, but she needs to get some sense knocked in.
