Okay, Tef has the girls stranded with almost no gear or weapons, .... just Alyssa's one suit of armor and one tachyon rifle, ... so they must raid the Thrall armory, good story, .... But after this, they should have stored on the new and upgraded Raptor, items that they'll need in a couple large and sturdy trunks, filled with weapons, and armor, also some food and water, maybe a med kit too, .... I believe that the standard issue T-Fed armor can be fairly easily folded up and stored compactly, ... but have Dana rebuild them with CA to replace the Ceramic plates, and use CA chain link mesh to replace the polymer combat weave, ... add some forcefield belts too, ... 3 or 4 suits of armor with weapons per case, so they can grab them fast in an emergency, ... that gives them something to start with in case they don't have a nearby Armory to rob next time, ... just a thought, .... carry on, ... So much drama, ... Rahn'hagon being an uncivilized Asshat (junior grade), Jessica crying all over the place, Alyssa now knows that Larn's end does not mean that they can start their families, ... the Progenitor war is just getting started, ... Little one and the bots having a funeral service for Faye, Dana and Irillith bawling their eyes out, .... John was completely devastated by Faye's loss, ... Everyone in tears, ... and the ship is a mess, ... and Alyssa won't use the Ascendancy Shuttle again unless she absolutely has to, ...

I wonder if there was anything left on Rahn's old, crashed ship that Rahn or Jessica want to recover, (most of their clothes and footwear would be well worn by now, unless there is some machine to make more), ... is there even a drop ship left for them to use? (A big ship, so it is likely), .... Also, are there access codes to allow them back onto Larn's old ship if they do go down to Arcadia?

@ Kal'adayn - Suppression field mistake?

Yeah, Allyssa didn't drop both Reaper Cannons when she entered the suppression field but that's not all, Irrilith uses her psychic powers to hack the security door to John's jail cell and then Jade shapeshifted from her tiger form. Now it's been established that shapeshifting is her 'innate skill' but it's powered by psychic power along with the mass exchange to change her size and weight. I'm assuming just a brain-fart on Teflers end, trying to juggle everything and figure out how to get out of the situation.

A thought, based on what Rahn'hagon both said and planned, He was going to kill John so that he could then take over the Maliri and prepare to defend himself and Jessica. He thought to take Alyssa too, as well as the rest of John's shipboard girls. Therefore, Rahn believed he could absorb another progenitors' thralls, and form a new eldritch power network (through his Matriarch, Jessica Blake?), SMH. But this does point the way for John to absorb, rather than kill, enemy thralls after draining/killing their former progenitor master. And then poor Baen'thelas might end up with quite a large and galaxy wide power base (multiple billions?) ... ;-) TTFN

Hello Tef, I have been re-reading this fine series again, and have noticed something you might wish to address in this chapter during a future rewrite. way back in chapter #85, when Dana was just getting some practice with her Rune protections on armor, she said that she would protect all their gear and weapons too. While early in this chapter (#121), Alyssa pulls all of the Crystal Alyssium from a tachyon rifle, while Dana pouts a bit, now she could have erased her runes, but it was not written. Or possibly she decided not to rune John and Alyssa's weapons to allow them to reshape their gear as needed. Either way, something really should be noted, eventually. Yours isn't the first comment reflecting John's apparent femininity; I've commented several times as have many others. As far as I can tell, the author couldn't care less. Perhaps Tefler is a woman pretending to be a male author, who knows? It would explain some things.

All I can offer is that John eventually seems to grow a pair since the four he has are doing him no good whatsoever. Maybe Alyssa gets tired of all his weeping, angst, hand-wringing, and whining, and starts spiking his drinks with massive amounts of synthetic testosterone. That won't help his apparent lack of intelligence, but it would slow down the tears. I'm surprised she didn't just grow a dick and start pegging John; he's earned it and would undoubtedly welcome it.

Everyone makes mistakes and bears through hardships. A strong person recognizes his mistakes, admits them, learns from them, tries to make things right, and then goes on. A strong person does not dwell on the past that he cannot change. A strong person endures hardship and even learns to make the most of it. He becomes stronger because of the hardship. He does not dwell on the past and become bitter about it, living in rage or remorse. It is necessary for soldiers to be strong mentally and physically. Soldiers may have to kill and may also witness their team members being killed, maimed, or otherwise injured. The Russian Spetsnaz are renown for their mental fortitude. John is an emotional cripple. He is constantly whining in remorse, regrets, abandonment issues, self-loathing, and otherwise dwelling in the past. John is also about as smart as a rock. One of many examples of this is abandoning a progenitor dreadnought to a hostile progenitor. Another example is ignoring the possibility of obtaining a thrall fleet. Another example is not concentrating on his own combat training using his powers together with his equipment. Another example is ignoring a hostile guide inside himself who could give him more power if dealt with. And so on. Being a stupid emotional cripple makes him unfit for leadership. His personality is that of a nurturer, which is typically considered to be a womanly trait. He is supposedly a protector, but many mothers in the animal kingdom try to protect their young. John’s personality is more like a woman with a dick, similar to Alyssa’s personality. I think Alyssa is more manly than John, and she coddles the emotionally crippled moron. This series is a soap opera. John is becoming more powerful but does not use his powers particularly effectively. He remains somewhat emotionally crippled, albeit his “therapy” may be helping. I don’t care about reading the details of a broken man’s therapy sessions. Geesh! And he still is stupid. I am really tired of this. I want to read about a hero. I want the leader of several galaxies to be a real leader. Then there is “I’m sick of being in these black ships” when the Invictus was black at one time? He didn’t even know if the Invictus could be repaired! If he didn’t like the black ships, the Maliri could use them. They could also salvage all sorts of useful gear from the black ships. Geesh!

Great chapter that neatly ends one story line and transitions into the next.

Awesome chapter, the loss of Faye is truly heartbreaking! Second time reading this story I cannot wait to finally finding out how John and the crew are going to rid the universe of the progenitor race and therefore the monsters on the astral plane. Keep up the great work!

Rahn'hagon thinks that John, with only a thousand thralls, fought with all the strength an the fury of a Progenitor at the apex of his power,.. and that was when John had just locked up his 'bad' guide again,.. so I think that means that when John finally absorbs his guide, and unifies his mind, reaching his full power,.. he will be approximately twice as strong as an average Progenitor who has hundreds of thousands of thralls,.. plus he has that awesome rune sword too! And you know that he will continue to share his cum with the Maliri, and if he can find another few Nymphs too ( huge power batteries ), he will be even stronger! Tragedy!! This is my 4th time rereading these last couple of chapters and I still get tears in my eyes,.. Great character building job you have done on our loveable purple pixie Tef,.. I really miss Faye through the next 20 or so chapters (awaiting #141 as of this writing), but it has been good to grow the crews abilities in Faye's absence. I really like the similarities between the progenitors and humans. Their idea that fighting is the answer to solving problems and their disrespect for life is also very recognizable. They don’t care about lifeforms they have no connection with or think of as disposable. We treat our planet, living creators, different races, people we do not know exactly the same. They think that they are god but they behave like they are the devil. Well done!!!

I am literally in tears. Faye is by far my favorite character and her journey has been my favorite story arc. I've been binge reading this excellent series up until now, but I have to take a break at this point. The grief is real.

The relative rareness if gaia-class worlds do make anyone using a planet-buster weapon on several life sustaining worlds in a war just so extremely wasteful (and criminally insane?). And I still am certain that Lynette, Charles and John would NOT deceive the High Command and disguise the Fleet Admiral ( who has been greatly altered both physically and mentally), that this act of deception (or treason) is just accepted by the principals is very hard to wrap my brain around. This story has been a sexy, fun and entertaining erotic space opera, but please return Faye to us! Thank you Tefler, you are a wonderful read!!

Seeing John and the girls effortlessly avoiding his counterattacks was infuriating, making Larn'kelnar feel like he was losing the battle. Not only that, but the sheer indignity of being upstaged by Blake and his menagerie was mortifying .... Larn'kelnar blinked in surprise as he was hit by a flurry of javelins from two directions ... As he crashed over onto his back, he stared up in fear at the assailant who'd brought him low, and was stunned to discover that a mere woman had come the closest to killing him in 9000 years ... *One of Blake's whores...* *The bitch took me by surprise... stabbed me...* His matriarch sounded stunned as she murmured, *You were nearly killed by a thrall?!*... *Not just any thrall... Blake's been augmenting them... giving them powers...* ... *That bitch had speed... Cryokinesis... maybe even Aerokinesis...*

Larn'kelnar looked around in a panic, knowing he only had seconds to act before he was ripped in half ... Blake was nothing but a clown... a simple-minded buffoon that had provided hours of amusement to her and Larn'kelnar. They had laughed as they watched him rush from one end of the Terran Federation to the other, unknowingly dancing to their tune. How could he have neglected his joke of a ship so badly, yet enhanced his thralls beyond all reason? Never in a million years, would Ailanthia have suspected the battle would have turned out like this. How she wished that Larn'kelnar had listened to her while Blake was still restrained and just executed him.

A great chapter, but losing Faye vastly diminishes the enjoyment of it. Seems sadistic knowing she was such a favorite of so many. Am hoping she can be brought back; if not will likely fade out if this tale.

Why people hate the Guide can be summed up pretty easily, hell John did it himself. The Guide has been nothing but a hindrance. He's an anvil around John's neck he has been carrying around for 121 chapters. Without the Guide, everyone would be in a vastly better position, many lives would've been saved and problems solved.

First of all. No, he isn't doing what Rahn actually wanted him to. He was never meant to try and supplant John, merely as a failsafe to keep Rahn safe and prevent John from doing certain things, because Rahn is inherently a coward. The Guide has gone rogue a long time ago and Rahn's reaction to him even speaking out says a lot. The Guide was NOT meant to hoard knowledge, he was NOT meant to try and supplant John, he was NOT meant to hinder him every step of the way, keep him from doing even the most fundamental of things, etc.

The Guide wrestled control of John in the past during times of crisis. That however ISN'T SOMETHING THAT HE SHOULD BE GIVEN CREDIT FOR! Because without his interference, without him hoarding the power, the knowledge, and fighting John every step of the way while trying to wrestle dominion John would've never even had struggled in these situations to begin with. For all intents and purposes, the Guide is one of the main villains of the story, without him Rahn's plans would've likely gone off without a hitch, John would've been vastly better off, much of the conflict in the story wouldn't have existed.

And I disagree. He doesn't need to absorb the guide, he just needs to drain him of the knowledge and other things he's been withholding before exorcising him once and for all. Right now WAS the perfect time for it, because the Guide was done. He had no power, he was defeated, down. Instead, John locked him away, so he can remain an anvil he has to drag behind him, producing conflict and problems.

And you can be certain the next time he's around, he'll cause no end of trouble again. He'll be powered up again and they'll have to struggle again. Unless John deals with him effortlessly going forward, John dropped the idiot ball in this chapter, HARD. If Rahn becomes a problem at any point going forward if they're struggling because they lack the access to the Dreadnought, even if they hadn't used it directly themselves if the Guide ever causes trouble again, all of that will be solely and exclusively John's fault. Because he can't for once goddamn finish something.

I have come up with at least 3 different continuing plots on the story. Unfortunately, I can afford to follow him on the other website. I just hope that the next chapter comes out sooner rather than later. My sleep is getting too screwed up to maintain this for long.

Tefler has just published on Patreon that he is busy with a revision of 123, a pre-release of the first part of 124 on the 23th of July and 125 on the 31th of July.

Why do people hate John's guide. He is simply following the orders he was given by Rahn. He has protected John in the past against the Drakkar and Fulmanax and only took over when he felt John was not following his destiny as decided by his father.

Both Rahn and PG will need to realise that the old Progenitor way of hundreds of thousands of thralls is wasteful and inefficient and John's new way of mutual respect and love is better. PG has mentioned this as he said "that the only thing you have done that is good is get seemingly impossible amount of power out of these women."

Giving the Dreadnought to Rahn is also not a completely terrible idea. Alyssa was having a very hard time seeing thousands of echos of thralls getting drained all over the ship and is constantly experiencing a feeling of unease just by being on the ship, probably due to its construction techniques (Soul Forge).

Locking up John's guide again has locked away alot of technology such as a Soul Forge and Warp Gate so John should absorb his guide asap, however the aftermath of such an exhaustive battle followed by the shock of an abortive family reunion doesn't seem like the best time for it.

While I said the giving the Dreadnought to Rahn wasn't a terrible idea it also wasn't a good one. If John didn't want to kill his father nor keep him close for Intel he could have given him the shuttle and told him to leave, although the best outcome would be to keep Rahn around to gain more Intel, he is approx 30k years old, he can't tell you everything in 5 mins. But these decisions would have to be made by a an unemotional person, or a person like us who view the situation from a distance and with the benefit of hindsight. When John made that decision he was grief stricken by Faye's death, despondent then overjoyed about the Nymphs, relived that he had killed Laen'kanar and was almost free to retire and start his family, relived that he had got through such a deverstating battle with many injuries but only one death, overjoyed that he finally met his father and they got along so well, then in shock when his father so casually mentioned he was made only to be a weapon and tried to kill him, meeting his mother, a lifelong goal, only to be dismissed in the worst way possible.

While I may be missing some emotional shocks to John my point is at this point in the day he is exhausted both physically, mentally and emotionally and the idea of saying " take all your shit and fuck off out of my life" is very attractive to him.

Whatever happens next I'm sure Termed has a plan and while it may not be what I think it's his story and we all love it.

I think John’s dealings with his guide shows a degree of naïveté as he knows full well just how dictatorial PG is. I think John should have demanded his guide to simply take a support and supply role, in exchange for letting him out! He needed to take charge of the relationship and demand significant amounts of the knowledge that PG has been withholding.

Another issue, shock and awe always seems to give better results than “waiting them out” so just letting Larn'kelnar just use up his power seems to me to be a poor solution.

Forgive me if I am wrong but aren’t the first three laws of computing: 1 - Backup. 2 - Backup. 3 - Backup. (All stored in different places)

The gateway server was a Progenitor server and I would have thought that Faye’s sense of self-preservation would have had her make copies of her core programming and data backup an essential failsafe need!

My thoughts on Alyssa’s “tampering” with Jessica’s mind. I think Alyssa just put her in touch with her humanity and emotions, NOT really tampering with her mind!

If we assume (an we all know what that means) that Rahn'hagon’s attack of John was triggered by FEAR (and PG’s interference) as well as a very narrow viewpoint of Progenitor power base protocols then that may open a window for a potential forgiveness and understanding between John and his parents. Rahn does not comprehend the potential of a mutual respect power base, only the slave based thrall system that Progenitors have always used. With Jessica telling him about all the girls having powers, and seeing firsthand what Alyssa is capable of he may wake up, get over his fear, forget his prejudices, and go down to Arcadia. Diplomacy may not be either of their strong points but they need to work out their differences and Rahn could start with opening up his relationship with Jessica, removing the overriding need to obey, etc.

As the shroud protects them from direct attack from Xar'aziuth and shields their physical presence then they should still have plenty of time to recover all of Larn'kelnar’s thrall ships, and convert them to the full potential armor that I am sure Alyssa and Dana will come up with. (Unleashing the full power of the Star forge!!!)

So basically Larn messed up with the guide. Who went rogue and rather than doing his job tried to supplant John. Well, that's on him and only gives more reasons to dislike him.

Also, can we already be done with the guide? He's been around since forever and he's been a nuisance since forever. Stop imprisoning him, stop struggling with him, just goddamn finish him off already. Now Jon imprisoned him again, which means he took all the knowledge about runes, tech, and other stuff into his new prison and likely even a large part of Johns powers.

We all know he'll be back, yet again. He's gotten old quite some time ago.

To those who think John should have destroyed Larn's Ship, learn from history! It is easier to destroy a STAR SYSTEM than a Progenitor's Dreadnought!

After getting the incipient feeling that the story was spinning its wheels for a few chapters, the tyres suddenly dug in and the whole thing shot forward into awesomeness. This one was filled with roaring combat, heartbreaking pathos, unexpected bathos and prolonged tension.

Dad fucked up, and hopefully Fay made a smaller supercomputer hidden somewhere in her body and it's just taking time to come online.

1 John already refused to sleep with his future daughters when Jade asked, his mother would be no different. 2 And as far as he knows she's just a mind-addled thrall now. We a know how much of a turnoff that is for him. 3 she's Rahns matriarch. She's still devoted to him even if she's pissed at him right now. John would have to force her or alter her mind. Again, that's just not John.

It might be possible for John and Alyssa to collate all memories of Faye from every crew member and get a pretty accurate view of her. If that is overlayed onto her personality base from the hacking deck, then they could bring back a slightly inferior version of Faye.

Another option would be for them to find Mael'Nerack's cloning facility and make a blank organic body that John could then imprint with a personality equivalent to Faye's with the crew's memories of her.

reminder that there's practically no difference between pseudonymity and anonymity when it comes to "shield[ing] behind a name"

It took me a while to read this after its release as I decided rereading the entire series was in order as the wait for Tefler to gift us with this free release was too much for my TSM addiction to endure. What an amazing ride and a truly epic space saga. Hats off to Tefler for writing so much and sharing it on Lit. The feels are real in this one. I love Faye and want to give little one and all the rest of the Invictus collective a big hug now. I’m really looking forward to the next release.

a) what Alyssa did to/for Jessica;

b) how Jessica treated Rahn'agon at the end;

c) what it feels like to a guy who isn't all bad, when the woman he loves is disappointed in him;

d) how Mael'nerek ultimately evolved;

e) the example John and Alyssa are setting both in the amount of power available from a small number of consenting beloveds, vs hundreds of thousands of thralls, and the multiplication of power from giving it away in trust and love vs. hoarding it in slavery;

f) even what Larn'kelnar was just starting to get.

Being a galactic-power-scale caveman is all well and good but real, lasting, resilient power arises from love and building and teaching power to others in a community of trust. Jessica remembers, now. And I'm betting Rahn'hagon is about to be taught. The love and wisdom of a strong woman, who has been given herself by the gifts of a company of strong women, has rescued many a poor boy. We poor boys - once we realize we love back - often welcome it. As I think Rahn'hagon will. Jessica can save him from an eternity of almost-got-it jerkdom, and together the whole family can teach the galaxy of progenitors another way.

So - why would you destroy an ally's ship?

Oh - and g) the difference between "loathe" and "loath". I am loath to do that which I do not wish to do (unvoiced th). I loathe confusing the two words (voiced th). Ok that was just horned_lizard and probably a typo, and to be fair, Tefler's editor made this error a few times in this chapter too, but it gives me a chance to be a pedant. I try to resist but it's hard.

Jessica is already disillusioned with Rahn, And what she's learned about how John treats his girls - she wants superpowers and a bit of free will too, I'll bet. And it's not like there was ever a mother-son relationship other than prenatal.

Hey, this is lit. We need to see her on her knees getting fed. And more. She's hot, sexually adventurous, and it's just naughty enough. Oooh, and it would really put Rahn in his place.

Great chapter Tef keep up the great work, I for one appreciate YOUR vision and YOUR universe.

The Trankarans gave an 'appellation', not a translation - "Ranagon the Destroyer", just as I might be called (by some species in a distant galaxy) "Alxy the Annoying Commenter". Of course, it might be the correct translation as well (who knows what "Alxy" means in that far-off galaxy). If "Rahn'hagon" did mean "The Destroyer", I might have expected Irillith at the time to have said something like "Oh, the Ancient Maliri for "The Destroyer" is "Rahn'hagon" - maybe that's where the Trankarans got the name "Ranagon" from?", but she didn't.

So it would be nice to get a definitive translation from One Who Knows, otherwise my nascent Progenitor/Ancient Maliri dictionary will remain forever incomplete. :(

Faye will return, like Pinocchio, she will be real. John will do it

Rahn will return too. He will also die, as will Xar'aziuth and his minions

Mom, the heartless murdering bitch will return and become crew for a short time until she crosses Alyssa. Whereas she will abandoned on Terra

Rahn'hagon (if memory serves) means Soul Reaver. But I'm old and I've slept since then.

I believe the trankarans gave the translation when they told John and the girls about the war of the heavens

Could one of you please, PLEASE, put me out of my misery, and tell us what "Rahn'hagon" in Old Maliri means? I've been in suspense for two chapters waiting to find out!
