In the real world a single stacked magazine of 50, 20mm rounds would be just over 1 meter long.

IRL a double stacked magazine of 50, 20mm rounds would be just over 75cm long.

In the real world 50 rounds of ammo is fucking heavy.

In the real world a bull pup has the magazine behind the trigger and in the book the driver bands are ahead of the trigger so that means that half the gun or more the bullet has no driver band on it so isn’t being driven so how does it get from the back to the front and what happens to the compressed powder charge that’s attached to it?

IRL rail guns still have recoil so that new rail gun with 20mm rounds which are 4 times the size of the 10mm ones will have 4 times the recoil. Recoil is a function of mass and the projectile is so fast that all the force is happening instantly. So 4 times the recoil firing what is now a cannon. You realise that 20mm is almost twice the diameter and 4 times the size of the 50BMG sniper/machine gun/anti material bullet and they weigh between 42 and 60 GRAMS depending.

Lots of the comments here remind me of similar debates over Star Wars and Star Trek forums. Most space opera 'science' is garbage, and is just meant to sound good enough to move the story.

I admit that lots of the science and battle stuff in TSM call take me a little out of the story, but no more so than those in Star Wars.

I just willfully suspend my disbelief and enjoy the ride.

Main battle rifle sights only in their helmets…. Thinking back in time, like a week ago, they were in a battle where both Allysa and John had their helmets destroyed. Allysa was out of it but John was still in the fight. John would have been unable to use his rifle in these new circumstances since there would be no sights. Aiming by ‘feel’ alone doesn’t seem like a survivable option to me.
