I do not think it means what you think it means

I love the inconceivable line.

The spinning shield. I'm curious if you had that in mind already or if you were inspired by 3SM Larnkelnar.

@Anon

I've tapped in Helsing Abridged, Monty Python, and R.A.Salvatore, why not a Princess Bride reference too! keep hoping that there will be an opportunity to throw in a Douglas Adams reference at some point :D

Trankaran, Maliri, Kirrix, The Grays, Sharkhead guys, the fish people and the lizard people i know, Larnkelnar sounds vaguely familiar but I think i'm on 106 or 109 and i'm not sure he's introduced them yet. Since I started TRC I have precious little time for reading it seems, i havent read TSM or HFHM since January. If they show up before those there's a possibility it influenced me but only indirectly. If the Larnkelnar show up after those chapters then any similarities are only coincidence. :) The original idea was two smaller shields but that didn't fit with my description of how combat works in the astral plane, having to split attention between attacking Kal and moving the shields to deflect his attacks as well. Forming the bubble shield and moving it to bring stronger areas to bear made more sense to me... Now i'm worried

@Anon Cont.

Now i'm worried. I've been avoiding checking out his chapter updates for the last few months because I keep seeing spoilers in the comments, and if the Larnkelnar are a recent thing I don't want to jump ahead to check out the similarities. At the same time I don't want people thinking i'm ripping off ideas from other authors :P

@BluDragyn: TSM / HFHM?

Could you give the full story names? Always looking for new reads and if you like them they must be good

TSM

TSM or 3SM stands for Three Square Meals by Tefler

A series well worth the time to +++ REDO FROM START +++ and go back to the beginning of TSM over a hundred episodes ago.

@G1breel @BluDraygn Spinning shields and such

3SM or TSM - Three Square Meals by Tefler - Great SciFi harem saga

HFHM - Home For Horny Monsters by writerannabelle - Another good monster girl saga

Spinning shields to bring a stronger part to the threatened side is not a new idea and has been used in many SciFi/Fantasy stories as it just makes sense. Tefler does make use of it in his story but you will need to be well into chapter 121 before you see the similarity between the Kal/Kelthor battle. TRC, TSM, and HFHM are my favorite series on Lit currently, and this chapter just keeps me loving TRC. Similarities happen, and make me smile as they bring to mind good reading moments. TRC is its own very unique story, and your magic system is amazingly different. I can’t express in words how much I have enjoyed following Kal’s journey.

The future

So, with Kal heading one way and Daxas heading the other, is Kal going to bond with her like he did the other women in his life, or is she just going to remain "wild"?

As for Rose, I'm a bit torn between wanting her wizard to survive this so she can be happy with him, and wanting Kal to have a travel partner. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

About Prentas

From the last book, Prentas seemed like a larger than life character. Didn’t he create monster girls? Anyway it’s good to see him as a real world person than some nearly omnipotent wizard. Perhaps as Kal continues his journey we readers will see the real person that was Prentas? One of my pet peeves is creating super powerful characters in an ordinary world because at some point there’s nothing that they can’t handle easily. The story is in the struggle and development of the characters. Okay, end of rant.

Yeah Silma!

She was in this one, right? Loved the if its brain was bigger thing. Wasn't really worried, but its nice to have one's faith reaffirmed.

Also. I've mentioned this before, and you had a reaction... so I'm only going to allude to it this time. But his teacher did say that he's quite attached to his body and moving physically. ^.^ Just saying... just saying... I'm not saying it, but I'm just saying...

Thank you very much for your stories. They are a wonder to read and a delight. Hopefully I won't fall behind on them again.

Thoughts

I wonder if from the flashback on an earlier if Ikuno was merely expressing the color preference for the slime girls purely from the aesthetics of it, rather than any temperament they might be associated with.

Also digging the mention of lore about our mad mage Prentis. Very intriguing.

Thinking Kelthor also did him a service when he refused to teach Kal how to fly in the astral planes. With Kal being more ground within his own body, and reliant on his own magic or his belief in it to function well in the astral; it seems likely Kal had mentioned or let slip his desire to create a flight rune, and with his remarkable progress I imagine Kelthor believes he'll manage it, so denying him some trick for merely moving ones mind within a mental construct will likely prevent Kal from hitting dead ends if he tried to incorporate it into his actual air flight. ^.^ Though who knows, maybe it was have given him the inspiration to make more progress, and it might still be too early to just let the hero bypass all the obstacles with Fly.

I chuckled a bit when the beagle girl ran off, I could hear the baying when she crashed through the underbrush. So cute, if impractical. Hope Kelthor is well. He's got plenty of teaching left to do.

@jpz007ahren

While there has been talk about the similarities between Kelthor's shield and Larnkelnar's from Tefler's Three Square Meals in the comment section, the color of the slime Ikuno mentioned along with the act she was proposing is a direct and intentional nod to Tefler's character Jade.

On a personal note, welcome back :)

Love the characters and writing style.

Fuck I hate frailties of the body.

Thank you

Rhino77PIlotRhino77PIlot5 months ago

Frailties of the body? Here's a 30 yo fighter pilot's brain trapped in a 77 yo body that has a wonky rebuilt knee, traumatic arthritis from years of basketball and track (long jump and triple jump), interminable training on how to fall by jumping into pea gravel off platforms up to about 10 feet tall (flightschool learning parachute landinds), and lots of running on concrete and asphalt (to maintain weight below maximums) -- I would trade none of it; it has been a fabulous life!!

.

I can identify with Kal. His ability to apply his knowledge and skills to new situations is exactly the primary ability cultivated in the training of aviators, and brought to a fine edge by advanced training in fighter aircraft (my case

F-100 and F-4). It was amazing to associate with smart, quick-witted folks on a daily basis as we strove to improve our skills and develop new tactics to outsmart our adversaries -- whether in training or in the real world. I know my physical skills have deteriorated and what used to be lightening fast reflexes are now just barely supersonic (maybe), the mental parts still work pretty well, but probably slower than 50 years ago (😁). I doubt that I could withstand half of the 8.0 G forces that were routine in the F-4 (they are higher in more modern aircraft).

.

Why I write these screeds on Lit is beyond me. I will have to spend some time contemplthat puzzle. Back to the topic at hand, I think the saga is outstanding on many levels as it brushes by so many aspects of real life. The scenery may be different, but the interactions of the living beings are very true to life. The question is if we are able to discern that parallel, and learn to incorporate the lessons learned into our own behaviors. (That last statement almost launched another screed...).
