One short but intense chapter: 1st - The moral grounds of each character is showing up...Maybe the weak one (Mark) was the one with some conscience: "He's shot himself", not enduring the guilt. 2nd - Diane is the usual cheater: All are to blame for her cheating, except herself...After all she was the one committing "a first-degree murder": she cheated and got pregnant! But she didn't acknowledge that. 3rd - Carla: she found a new friend with advaced ideas about marriage and now is cheating with her and her husband, and soon will try to pull Dave to that swinging relationship. 4th - Dave: A cheater thinking: "One night. That was it. My life completely screwed up"! Most times one or two hours are enough...Soon he will find out about his wife and her friends...What will he do? What morals will he have? Can he ever trust Diane? A woman that cheated, got pregnant and wanted to "claim the child as her husband's"? And even saying: "it serves the fucker right"! As if she wasn't at the same low level as her husband! Now we have a story with 6 low level characters...Or the plot and the end saves it or this story goes down the drain, even if well written...2* for now

Conclusions... But Now the story has an end. The daughter goes to Vandy, Diane is widowed Carla has a lover or 2 (Jack for sure and likely Nell) so there is Dave's excuse to bail on his marriage... and get with Diane.

But he and Diane won't be a good match either with a 3 year old and an itch that will need more scratching than he can provide (He could't keep Carla satisfied so what makes him think he can keep up with Diane? He can't. The only winner in this story is Jodi, becaise when she leaves for College, ahe can leave these loosers in the dust.

Melting snow means it is nearly spring and all gone.

1) Don't eat at restaurant named ' Mom's Diner'. No slip there.

2) Don't wager large sums at 9 ball with a man named Doc. So far , so good.

3) don't lay down with women who have more troubles then you do. DING.DING.DING. DING.

The narrator frays my patience as he walks through the whole installment feeling smarter and more sensitive then anyone in the room, fresh off of sucessive high risk trysts with female subordinate who abounds in chaos.

No chance to get into the story, or really develop the main characters with what you have written so far.

I really like how you've developed the plot and characters.

This (to me) contains a unique story line and it is very intriguing. I think your characters come across as authentic with real character flaws and challenges.

I am very interested to see how this works out - but I'm a little puzzled as you indicate this is just a 2 part series. Is this series over or do you intend to add another chapter?

I also agree with some other comments that you could extend your chapters, make them longer.

But I wish you hadn't made it so obvious in Part 1 that Carla is cheating with Jack and Vance, and that Dave will find out, divorce Carla, and marry Diane.

If cheating is wrong, then it doesn't matter who cheated first or for how long. An act is right or it's wrong. It's not more wrong because it went on longer.

You have reached that fork in the road. Leave it hang here for us to enjoy and contemplate or work to move forward with these characters.

I think you have probably enjoyed some learning curve activity as you molded and had these individuals dance thru a fictional life. Shift to a new setting and different circumstances for a husband finding adventure too strong an aphrodisiac to ignore and how his wife take a quick and dirty adventure of her own.
