Hall Pass Ch. 67 - Epilogue
By: LewdLuke

Author's note:

Our story did not end here but I have decided to quit telling the tale. I have to stop somewhere and this went on for another nine years. Linda kept a scrapbook from the beginning to the end. It contains every hall pass that each of us ever wrote including those that were never acted upon. The book is similar to a logbook. One look at any of the passes is enough to jog my memory so that I can remember the episode very well. From the point where the story is now until the last entry in 2001, many escapades became beautiful memories. If I find the time, I might write some of them up as stand-alone stories sometime in the future. If I do, you will recognize the characters.

I am going to use the epilogue below to tie up all the loose ends that I have left dangling. I hope that will be sufficient to satisfactorily end the story for you, the reader.

Many thanks to all of you for your interest, encouragement and input along the way,
Luke

Epilogue

Bobby Wilkinson succumbed to his illness in the spring of 1993. He had never recovered enough to want to see Linda. Truthfully, he didn't want Linda to see him in his condition. We kept in touch but were never invited to visit before his death. Our last trip to Scotland was to attend his memorial service. He lives on in the child he had with Michelin. The beautiful little boy is Bobby recreated in both looks and mannerisms.

Michelin and Eric Littleton became an item a year or so after Bobby's death. That was no surprise. Sparks had flown between them earlier. In the end, Bobby had encouraged their relationship. He knew Eric to be a good man that would take care of Michelin.

With the help of Eric and Uncle Artair, Michelin was able to keep her estate running profitably. A year later, Michelin married Eric. They combined their holdings and did very well together. We still exchange Christmas cards but hardly anything more.

Anne Littleton also married. We never met her husband. I understand that he was a trader in imported textiles and they lived in Liverpool. We lost touch many years ago.

Big Ed fuller also married his main squeeze. She turned out to be a sweet and lovable person but she was aware of Ed's relationship with Linda. She could never be comfortable with us. The two of them disassociated themselves from the club. They pooled their resources and opened a combination sports bar and café in Addison, Texas. We didn't try to maintain contact with them.

We reconnected with Gary Yoshimura and his wife Yu Yan twice. We vacationed in Hawaii once and they came to the ranch once. This was one of our lesser entanglements and yet we still get cards and letters from them occasionally.

Linda and I made two more trips to the rodeo in Wyoming. We met with Lonnie and his wife the first time. She and I had a good time together but that was the only time. She was significantly younger than I was and probably preferred the younger cowboys. On the second trip, Linda and Lonnie reconnected and Linda gave me a pass for a free hunt. I might write that trip up someday.

Sandy and Carlos resurfaced in the summer of 1992. We hadn't seen them in two years. They had married and had just finished their sophomore year at the great school of the minds in College Station. Sandy was extremely pregnant. They asked us to be godparents to their unborn son. Over the next four years, Sandy finished her bachelor's degree in education and then busied herself rearing her pretty babies. Carlos got his master's in mechanical engineering. He went to work for an international construction firm based in Houston, Texas.

They had two more children. The second was another boy and the third was a most beautiful little girl. Our relationship with them had remained platonic through all this time and of course, we fell in love with the little ones. I thought of them as grandchildren. They came to the ranch several times a year for a weekend.

In the fall of 1998, Sandy called and said that she and Carlos had a weekend off from the kids. They were staying with her parents. She wanted to come for a visit. I cooked steaks and we had a few drinks by the pool. Carlos informed us that his company was sending him to Brazil to work on a project that would last for at least two years. The family was going along. Then they made a ceremony of giving each other hall passes. The good news was, I had the privilege of sleeping with Sandy again. Of course, Linda and Carlos renewed their physical relationship too. The bad news was, one overseas assignment led to another. We only saw them twice after that. Age was a factor here too. Sandy was half my age. (Being old sux.)

We kept in touch with Walt and Liz Zimmerman. We had several more interludes with them including a Caribbean cruise with two other couples from their Florida group. Linda's susceptibility to seasickness wasn't a problem on the big ship. Our relationship with them petered out about 1996 when Luke's last business deal with Walt was concluded.

Kay Linden (Aunt Kay) had a major stroke in 1999. She recovered somewhat but then had a second and more severe one three months later. She wound up in a nursing home after that one. I never knew how old she was but she must have been in her middle or late seventies by that time. Linda and I went to visit her at least once a week while she was still lucid but the last year of her life, she couldn't recognize us. Most of the time, she didn't even know we were there. We visited less often. It was a blessing when she passed in October of 2001.

Kay's passing was very hard on Linda and me but it was harder on Uncle Gus. Gus had played the field most of his life and I think Kay might have been one of only two woman he ever truly loved. He kept her house up for her while she was in the nursing home and then bought it from her relatives after her death. He moved in and lived there until his own demise six years later. His passing devastated Linda.

Barbra Porter was also in the picture. She had been our first when we opened our marriage and she remained almost until the end. She never took a lover in these years that she pledged a monogamous relationship with. We always accepted her partners whether they were male or female. We found a way to accommodate either sex. She changed partners several times and they seemed to keep our relationship with her new. Our association with her did come to an end in 1999. She married and moved on. She and her husband moved out to the west coast. I hated to see her go and I miss her still. We still hear from her on occasion. I think we always will.

Larry and Caroline became our only constant through to the end of our swinging years. They seemed to stabilize us to the point where we didn't really need anything else. I think that the relationship that developed between the four of us was what Linda and I had been looking for all along. We were all hot and heavy in the beginning but that phase passed rather quickly. We became very comfortable with each other. Linda and I abandoned all our rules with them much as we had done with Barb. We evolved to the point where we didn't have any kind of a schedule or a routine. When I wanted to be with Caroline, I called her. The rest of the foursome all had that same privilege. If I had to be gone for any reason, Linda might visit them and sleep in the middle. Over time, we did every combination of a threesome. My favorite seemed to be two girls and a guy. We did two guys and a girl but not very often. When all four of us were available at the same time, we would usually pair off for one on one fun time. I considered myself to be in love with Caroline. Linda loved both of them but never admitted it.

All good things come to an end. In 1994, Larry had positioned himself to go into business on his own. He was a civil engineer. He gave notice at the firm where he was working and they offered him a full partnership to stay with them. They should have done that years before. He analyzed the situation and the numbers said that he would be better off with a third interest in an established firm rather than risking everything on a new venture. He stayed. His financial situation improved radically. He became a multi-millionaire quickly but he also turned into a workaholic. He was away quite often. Caroline would stay with Linda and me on those occasions. I had many opportunities to sleep in the middle during that time.

In 2001, the same year that Kay passed, Larry suffered a major coronary event. It happened during an interlude with Linda. We damn near lost him and he didn't recover completely. The doctors made him understand that he couldn't, burn the candle at both ends, anymore. He had to slow down. Another heart attack would likely kill him. Larry joked that Linda had always said that she was going to fuck him to death. She believed that she had come very close to doing that. She had some serious anxieties about being with him afterwards.

Larry was still a young man but he opted to retire. He had plenty of money and he decided that work wasn't worth killing himself over. He had inherited his father's home place near Tyler, Texas a year before. It was a ranchette of about a hundred and fifty acres. It included a nice ranch style home that his father had built less than ten years before. Larry and Caroline moved to Tyler.

Tyler is only a couple hundred miles from us and we did visit some. Larry and Linda never resumed their sexual relationship. I don't think she wanted to. Inside, I think they were both afraid to. The loss of Kay and Barb along with Larry's situation took the wind out of Linda's sails.

Caroline was happy with ending our relationship too. She had always professed to love me and she had played the part well. However, if she had ever been forced to choose between Larry and me, she would have certainly chosen Larry. He was the father of her child and her only true love. That was as it should be. She and I saw no way that we could continue our relationship under the new circumstances. I happily walked away with Linda.

We gave up swinging completely. Sometimes, I can't tell what is going on in Linda's mind but I've not felt any serious attraction to other women since then. Linda has always been my only real love. Still, I do appreciate a pretty girl when I see one and I will do a double take on occasion. I hope I never outgrow that minor flaw in my character.

It was, as I had known it would be. When it was time to quit, we both knew it and it was far easier for me to quit than it had been for me to start in the first place. I was fifty-six years of age and Linda was fifty-two. Our swinging era had lasted between thirteen and fourteen years. It seemed less. Time does fly when you are having fun. Our experiment with the radical lifestyle was over. I knew then that I would be content to crawl into a warm bed in a cold room with my Linda every night for the rest of my life.

Here's the good stuff.

Miss Cindy Perkins became Mrs. Michael Bowman in June of 1994. Linda was ecstatic over this development and I was happy for them too. I was crazy over Cindy. She became the daughter that I never had.

Mike had changed his major at school twice and spent some time in a position where he didn't know what he wanted to do. He finally went pre-med. In the end, he wangled his way into the vet school at A&M somehow. That was the only Veterinary school in the state and the acceptance rate of applicants was very low. We were very proud of him. He and Cindy lived in College Station while he went through the program.

Linda and I paid all the bills. We wanted to make it as easy on Mike as we could. Vet school was a full-time occupation.

Cindy gave us our first grandchild in May of 1995. It was a hairy-legged little boy. They gave him his father's name. Then in January of 1997, I got what I wanted. She was named Lee Ann after Cindy's mother. I finally had a baby girl of my blood. She was so pretty. Her mother's family traits were dominant in her as far as looks went. I already loved her mother and I fell in love with this newer version of her the instant that I first saw her.

Linda's comment was, "Well, this one will be spoiled rotten."

Their last child came in September of the next year. She missed Linda's birthday by only two days. She was also three weeks or a month early. Otherwise, I would have been there. I was in California on a business trip. Linda had opted not to go with me as she usually did because Cindy was so close to term.

As soon as I heard the news, I wrapped up my business as quickly as I could but it took another two days. They hadn't named the baby before I left California. The little girl was four days old when I finally got home. Cindy, Mike and the baby were staying at the ranch. The two older kids were with Cindy's mother.

Linda met me as I got out of my truck. She kissed me and asked, "Do you want a drink?"

I answered, "Hell no, Linda. I want to see my granddaughter." Then I asked, "Does she have a name yet?"

Linda took my hand and started leading me toward the house. She giggled and said, "They gave her my name." I could see the pride in her as she told me. Linda also said, "She is strong and healthy. The doctor said she wasn't premature. They just had the date of conception wrong for some reason.

Cindy and her baby were in my den. Cindy was rocking the small wooden cradle that one of my employees had made for her when Michael Jr. was born.

She rose from her seat and gave me an extra hard hug and her usual sweet kiss on my cheek. Little Linda was asleep and the first thing I noticed was the blonde hair. It was much lighter than my Linda's was. It was almost white but there was a tinge of yellow. I knew it would darken to a honey clolor.

Cindy said, "Sit in your chair, Grandpa. You can hold her."

I sat and Cindy brought her to me. She laid the little one in my arms. She wiggled and cooed for me. She displayed the sweetest smile complete with dimples. She had definitely been named well. She looked like her grandmother. Her little eyes fluttered and I caught a glimpse of green.

I held her for the moment it took for me to fall in love with her. I knew that this one would be the favorite that I wasn't supposed to have. I heard myself whisper, "Hello, Tinker Bell." I swear, she giggled for me.

The End
