In my writing, I like to explore the gray area between emotional/sexual innocence and awareness, and as a result, most of my stories involve college aged characters. That transition happened for me during or just before college, so I guess that’s why I default to that time.

Many of the characters in my stories are based on people from my life, past or present. I always change their names and physical attributes, and the situations and actions of these characters are always fictional, but it’s fun seeing how these fictional versions of real-life persons react and evolve as the story develops.

Finally, I try to limit or be vague about my sense of my characters’ physical attributes. I think fantasy of this sort works best when the reader conjures up their own image of what “Angela” or “Stevie” might look like, and I suspect a reader’s personal “tailored” version will be much more engaging to them than my version might be.
