Early in my 50s, I began writing erotica, following the advice of Anne Lamont, in her book, Bird By Bird. She recommended that a writer introduce characters, have them interact, and see where the story leads. So I tried that, and things did indeed happen. Write about what you know, she also said, and if you don't know about it, find out before you write. So I did that too. I learned about Tantra--straight and gay--and about BDSM and other kinds of sexual play. Those experiences have provided inspiration for many, if not all, of my fictional stories. (Although maybe all fictional writing is really an autobiography in disguise!)
My wife has preferred for me to be discrete, so I write under a pen name, Martha McKinley, which I have used for the last 10 or so years.
