I make my living as a researcher. I don't research sex per se, or for academic purposes, but it relates in some incidental ways to the subject that I research. But I do have a better than average knowledge of the science of sex.

The psychological trait known as ‘openness to experience’ has been studied since at least the 1930s.

The late Carl Rogers, one of the founders of the field of humanistic psychology, said in his 1954 article, Toward a Theory of Creativity, “It has been found that when the individual is “open” to all of his experience…then his behavior will be creative and his creativity may be trusted to be essentially constructive.” The lay term is open-minded and while much more is known about it now, its association with creativity remains.

Australian psychologist Luke Smillie says in his 2017 Scientific American article, Openness to Experience: The Gates of the Mind, that “Open people tend to be intellectually curious, creative and imaginative. They are interested in art and are voracious consumers of music, books and other fruits of culture. Openness is one of the five personality traits that comprise what’s known in the scientific literature as The Big Five. Each trait is characterized on a polarized scale which is used to determine whether an individual is low or high on that trait. For openness, the scale is represented by inventive/curious on one end and consistent/cautious on the other. A person who is measured to be high on openness expresses behaviours and views that tend to be more inventive/curious.

Open people tend to exhibit less racial prejudice. Open people also tend to be more highly educated. And the more education a person has the greater the tendency for a large diversity of sexual fantasies.
